VW Emissions Scandal Thread V2

VW still claim they didn't break German law (really?) but Lower Saxony shareholders don't buy it

http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1107135_vws-home-state-calls-diesel-actions-inexcusable-as-scandal-expands

Greencar quote:

A Volkswagen statement on Pötsch's inclusion said that the company "reaffirms its belief that the Volkswagen Board of Management [...] its disclosure obligation under German capital markets law."

Shouldn't there be a word like 'fulfilled' where I've stuck the red empty brackets? Lost in translation, sloppy proof-reading?

I have to say that I would side with Lower Saxony and say VW failed to disclose early enough. Hate to keep kicking them when they're down, but they didn't half ask for a kicking.

Whole new front opened up on VAG petrol cars relates to gear change points during testing I gather to give false emission reading).

VW Accused of Concealing Emissions Cheating in Audi Gas (Petrol) Cars

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-11-09/vw-accused-of-concealing-emissions-cheating-in-audi-gas-cars

  • Owners of 100,000 Audi vehicles file class-action lawsuit
  • Gas cheating allegedly encouraged even after diesel scandal

Volkswagen AG’s plot to cheat emissions tests by installing so-called defeat devices in its vehicles wasn’t limited to diesel cars, but also included at least six models of Audi 3.0-liter gasoline engines, according to a consumer lawsuit.  In a class action on behalf of owners of more than 100,000 vehicles, the German carmaker’s Audi unit was accused of installing software designed to beat emissions tests in its A6, A8, Q5 and Q7 cars since February 2013 and possibly earlier. Audi executives encouraged use of the devices in gas-powered vehicles as recently as May, eight months after the diesel cheating was publicly disclosed, according to the complaint filed Tuesday in Chicago federal court.   VW spokeswoman Jeannine Ginivan and Audi spokesman Mark Clothier declined to comment on the complaint.

Odd that the article lacks more detail because they have done it because late last year and early this year they were being investigated for C02 Irregularities which was changed to Implausible Co2 results then quickly stopped being talked about.

So two articles saying about CO2 (and possibly NOX etc).

There seem to be articles earlier this year saying that the way the cylinder de-activation worked (presumably if different to the on-road way it worked) meant that law enforcement believes VAG might be cheating this test like the cheat EMU sub-routine was doing and the same is not being alleged for the way the car changed gear (most US cars are auto I suspect and particularly with these bigger engined cars) and therefore in the same vein as the cheat(s) already exposed.

VAG must be considering pulling out of the US all together and be worried with its huge factories in Mexico which would attract import duties if Trump modifies the NAFTA agreement it has with Canada and Mexico.  It only gets better..

A whole new front on the cheating it appears that it is not only detecting the rolling road "wheels driven" but the lack of steering wheel movement to trim emissions output during the test, sounds like US regulators are going to have another field day.

It has always revolved around no steering input.

It has always revolved around no steering input.

My understanding was that it principally revolved around detection of one pair of wheels not rotating. The principal is that VAG software deduced it was on a test bed rather than the road and hence applied cheats to give a false reading compared to the road. Usually a perp would come clean on all cheats as it is usually worse if there is a 'rolling' declaration to use a pun.

No lol

The original cheat identified that the only time a vehicle would be driven without ANY steering input was during the emissions testing.

It was the fundamental giveaway

Audi 3L petrol seem to be sus now

Have you seen some US roads? (bit like the Nullarbor plain).

The article you link to only has a few of the sensors mentioned that the EMU actually senses, including inclinometer of the DSG.Auto boxes that are now being investigted.  I wonder if anyone outside Audi/Bosch actually has looked at the code and questioned Audi/VW Bosch as to why particular bits of the program are in there.

I think it is fro the lawyers to find out these specifics and determine if these peices if program are there to "fool" the test.  Bloomberg specifically mentioned the latest Audi cheat identified on the auto boxed petrols, as well as diesels, got the EMU to change at a point which would be different to the point it would on the road so a different part of the program tried to lower NOX by introducing different fuel injection protocols and post combustion processing when detected it was being tested rather than driven on the road and polluting the air for the general population rather than just the air drawn from and output in the lab.  (Whilst working for Piper we would have the exhaust output entirely drawn off , sensored and then output outside the lab/rolling road of course for our safety).

Doesn't matter how straight the road there will always be enough irregularities to require minor constant corrections.

Use to read a book on the rolling road running in a race/tuned engine, occasional tweak to prevent glazing, cylinder ridging.

When in Walleroo and drivers were just about to take on the Nullarbor, not much steering movement there unless you are in a US made car or maybe an old land rover type.....

We were on that famous straight stretch back in May but not as flat as you would expect.

Not quite Nullarbor; you can always make out stunted ones in the distance.....no desert but lots of saltbush.

It is the Traditional Autoboxes they are looking at.

As far as i am concerned the VW Group have really got something right with the 6 speed DSG & 'Coasting',

it can give amazing economy with a TDI using Ad-blue.

A proper size Ad-blue tank makes a difference as well.

BBC news has announced that VAG to lay off 23,000 workers DUE to the emissions scandal,so it appears as usual the wrong people are the ones who suffer for somebody's greed.
