Do YOU drive through puddles regardless of deepness?

Featured Replies

Logiclee,

were you trained and qualified as an offroad driver or the likes when professionally driving, were you a linesman?

This was my 110, surprising it survived as it was being used. (its was RPI Engineering's)

  • If this is serious then you have NO idea how to drive................................   Yes I  have driven through water deep enough (about 7inch)  to get it in the front fog lights on an old bread

Take a look at my video from the start of December. The amount of people beeping their horns as I wouldn't go. I could see how bad it was. They are just impatient. I didn't want to write my car off.

Logiclee,

Not a linesman but similar. Two yearly training and assessment for offroad, same for towing and tachograph. Off road course included basic running repairs.

Mainly Defenders and Disco's but some pickups etc.

Also had a few myself, Mk2A's and Mk3's and a couple of Jeeps.

Egg stained vest and heavy right foot? :notme:

What part of he UK do you come from , as Taxi drivers in the Midlands do not eat eggs, but do have a heavy right foot/ constant belief in the fact that taxis stopping distance does not have to comply with vehicle published stopping distances, and any gap in front is an invitation for them to overtake. Off roading- only one rule, which I learned from an old mentor in Africa. The skill in driving a LR is knowing WHERE you CAN'T go, rather than where you can .

Problem is with modern cars is that like all fairy tales ,it begins with once upon a time, when car air intakes was high up on top of the engine. More danger of flooding the electrics than pulling in water. Some one said sill high on a Fabia- I'd not even attempt that ,as I'd suggest the air intake is lower, and under the front bumper. It might be possible to get more height on the intake by disconnecting the intake in the engine bay, BUT what other intakes would a higher water level get into. In most parts of the UK, it might be 50 miles to get round a flood .50 miles in a TDI = 1 GAL OF fuel = approx £5 at todays prices. Double that for a round trip and it's only £10, far less than most insurance excesses and loss of NCB ,or engine replacement.

O/T But... thst aint you and your nan in the Greenflag ad on tv with the Clio complete go faster flames is it :D;)

Lass where I worked did that with a Citroen BX " The Picasso you passed " and wrecked her engine. If OP had done the same, at least he'd have taught the poor kids something about the incompressibility of water

Just below the front of the bonnet.

I think this guy is just a bell end trying to get a reaction. He only posted 4 times in the last 12 months.

I wouldn't do it with an expensive car but see no problem with the Octy, I only got it to rag it silly for 2 years then give it back and it's very good at being ragged to death!!!

Yes I  have driven through water deep enough (about 7inch)  to get it in the front fog lights on an old bread van style VW polo.......................but I knew the road so no manholes & that the trucks driving through where it was on them..........

also 15mphish the max for safe driving as you have to keep the sped down to PREVENT the car aquaplaning.............& stop the bow wave toping over the car.................

As for causing a danger to the other road uses..........................you ****........................& doing it when having some one else's kids in the car & you being a taxi

BIG FECK OFF ****....................... :finger:

There's a world of difference between doing it in a 3 year octavia and a car you can change the engine in yourself in an afternoon though.

I did quite a good bow wave push once in a mk2 polo as the cars behind me were lowered and wouldn't had made it without me leaving a wake for them to follow in. Not sure how fast I was going, but I was well into 2nd gear :)

If it isn't, the OP is a pratt!!

Agreed ahole.

Mm... may go on a previous post read up...

I was sure the Octavia wouldn't drown as I'm assuming the air intake is very high

Never opened the bonnet then!

Is this post a wind up?

Certainly seems like a Troll in action.

I do enjoy a good puddle :D

Last time I saw that much water under a Rover, I'd just drained the sump. ;)

If you going to do it, do it properly:

Har oh dear.

I pay (to me) a lot of money to buy and run a car I'm not taking any chances by ploughing on though deep water.

I wouldn't go though anything I thought was deeper than the sills of the car, even then I'd worry since dropping your red hot cat into cold water isn't a great idea.

If I had to go through I go slow <5mph in 1st maybe even slipping the clutch to keep the revs nice and high and the gas coming out the exhaust.

You went through at 25mph, you're lucky you still have a running car.

I do avoid puddles especially in built up areas - where I can't avoid, I slow down.

It's not nice splashing pedestrians.
