Excessive rumble noise from front wheels - Superb Estate

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have just bought a 2013 Superb Estate 2.0D DSG Elegance from a dealer and the road noise and vibration from the front wheels was really bad.

Looking at various forums I decided that tyres were a likely problem as it came fitted with BCT S800 225/40 18 - BCT is Bejing China Tyre!

Research showed me that these tyres in particular are terrible in every measured performance area, so much so that some tyre reviewers warm drivers against buying them, at their retail price of about £35.

A change to Pirelli Cinturato P7's has transformed the car's ride, handling, grip and quietness and I am now the happy owner of a Skoda for the first time. :)

Having been in an airport taxi companies car with Wanli tyres I can sympathise! The drone was like a drill to the temple lobe. Not what you need after a business trip and 13hr flight!

It makes you wonder what else has been scrimped on

It is absolutely normal for any dealer to shove-on the cheapest possible tyres to minimise the reduction in their margin. If the car isn't due a service, they won't service it. If they can get away with minor bodywork, they will. If something isn't working, they probably won't fix it. Caveat emptor...

You say that but Arbury stuck on 3 new PS3s to get my superb thru its MOT prior to purchase! I was most pleased! I understand that this is unusual though.

I'd rather be given the option of cheap nasty things or pay an extra £20 and get something decent.

They must have searched high and low to find such cheap and nasty tyres, my tyre garage budget ones are still 50 quid
