Oh the temptation of another vRS!

Featured Replies

I'm being tempted by my dealer to change cars early, they're doing the £1k deposit contribution, £500 fuel card & 0% PCP, but what's annoying is they're doing a £1k loyalty bonus too, however they can't  get a car to match the specifications in time!  :'(

What I didn't realise waiting time for a new build is now >16 weeks.  :o

The specification I've chosen is:

TSi 220 DSG in Quartz Grey

Black design package plus (Includes 19-inch Xtreme alloy wheels (7.5 x 19-inch with 225/35 R19 88Y tyres and anti-theft wheel bolts), sunset glass, colour Maxi DOT)

Adaptive Cruise

Winter Pack (Heated front seats, Heated windscreen, Washers)

Folding mirrors

Kessy

Parking Assist.

3 year servicing

Autoglym & Bodywork repair package

I would have gone for the Columbus & Canton, but with it adding £1500 extra to cost and meant that I would have had to find a £7779 deposit to keep the monthly payments in check/manageable level (£407 including them), whereas it drops to ~£5800 without them & this results in a much more manageable £325 pcm for it.

Do I or don't I?  :wonder:

Nice spec but I wouldn't bother with the Parking Assist. I tested it and unless you really can't park then I wouldn't bother.

Oh no, I can't do without it, it causes quite a stir when someone watches it park itself and it's so useful for those spaces you're not sure of or wouldn't attempt and if you get some oink block you in!

Park assist is so so. I'm terrible at parallel parking and I find this doesn't do that great a job as it can easily park itself some way off the curb as the system doesn't effectively detect this.

I do agree though... It's a great party trick for the car [emoji13]

Is that deal across the range? when does it need to be completed by? thanks

Here's your answer: http://www.skoda.co.uk/finance/finance-offers

Or if you're on about the loyalty bonus I think that's a Garlands customer exclusive.

Thanks for reply may go and ask about loyalty bonus at local dealers.

I have park assist and love it, mainly for the looks you get from outside. The perpendicular assist is good on my mondeo too, and also the 'get out' assist is handy.

I always find though that if I'm not sure it will fit I leave it as it could be a struggle getting out or the idiots (until proven otherwise) could make a hash of getting out and bump me

Loyalty bonus is across all dealers and Skoda incentive AFAIK.

My dealer is doing the loyalty thing. Think it's Skoda loyalty rather than dealer,or they're being Skoda subsidised

In that case you should be aware that it only runs to the end of March.

Your new car must be ordered and registered by March 31st to qualify, If I order on Wednesday, it'll fail because it won't arrive until mid-May! :'(

How does the spec differ from your current VRS? Is it worth the change, will you be better off, worse off in-terms of cost! I actually like a lot of the extra options you have added but can't you save on the 3 year servicing & autoglym & have this done as you normally would! Will not adding these 2 options & add Canton instead bring the price to the £325 figure you posted above? If you cut back on the servicing & Autoglym!

My car is on a 7k miles pa, PCP, it's on 15k already, the PCP runs until November. At the current rate of usage I'll end up paying a considerable penalty for over the 21k mileage limit.

This is down to the fact that when I took out the PCP, the amount of mileage I was doing was relatively small, however in the last few months serious family illness has forced this mileage up by at least 30%, at one stage I was doing over 50 miles a day to see my dad in Frimley Park hospital + a days work of 15 miles and that was every day for 10 days. So that ate up the spare mileage in one 10 day hit.

The Autoglym I could probably save on, but the servicing, is an essential and it's an expense that I don't have to find extra for each year as it's already paid for.

As for adding the Canton sound system, it's a bit of a waste as I'm usually I'm not in the car for too long, ½ hour max when going to work, it's only on about 4 or 5 occasions when I do really >3hr long trips per year.

If all the contributions and bonuses only come of list price then it isnt a very good deal. We all know you can get 20% off an Octavia if you shop around. That's about £4500 off a VRS straight away.

Makes their £2500 look pathetic.

Stop and consider how much you are spending on your car.

There isn't 20% margin in an Octavia - and all of the financing, servicing etc incentives are funded out of the dealer margin.

Please prove me wrong though and show us all where we can get 20% discount

I would expect them to continue with something similar or better, especially as more PCP deals start coming to full term

A quick look on Broadspeed gives approximately 16% discount, £4111

http://broadspeed.com/CarView/Skoda/Octavia/37316/TSI_2.0_220PS_Petrol_vRS_Automatic_5_doors

Ok I was wrong, not 20%, but still better than the £2500 the OP was offered.

You can get better deals, as dealers will also give some of their other bonus to meet target.

16% is all the margin basically without eating into volume bonuses.

If you look at the Ts & Cs it says you can't have the 0% offers and the trade in / loyalty discounts form part of that £4k discount.

As TheWanderer is trading in to pay off his current PCP, he will get rock bottom on the trade in on this kind of deal so may actually be worse off and have to put more cash in to clear the PCP.

On PCP it is all about the monthly payment, don't get sucked in with headline discounts as it may not stack up to be as good a deal as you think ..........

and conversely, whoever gives you the most for your swapper might not be giving you the best overall deal either .......

Personally if it was me I'd either look elsewhere towards the end of the PCP or at the Superb.

As is it worth it. Depends if the numbers work for you then why not if you've enjoyed your mk3 so far.

Yeah I'm doing a coupla or three thousand miles over my contract but, @ 7p per excess mile even 10k at the end is only £700.

Not a pitance but, the first 2 years depreciation will make it look cheap. I don't see VAG sorting out their sales problems from the emmissions scandal any time soon so, prices & discounts ain't going away any time soon.

From my recent research and subsequent order placement, the 'on the web' prices are different from the actual quote the Brokers give you. You need to do a full quote and get an actual price.

Although Broadspeed emailed me and phoned, they never actually got back with a 'proper' price and I ordered via a different method.

Also some of the cheaper Brokers supply preregistered vehicles.

What with the government's new car tax scheme coming 2017 and the Skoda loyalty discount it seemed a now or never time to buy.

The problem with brokers is that you have to sell privately, also the car's on a PCP so I don't technically own it,it's VWFs until I make the final payment.

I don't like the thought of selling privately either, especially as it's a moderate performance car and I don't want to let someone take it on a one way test drive!

Whilst some people swear by brokers, I prefer to use a dealer for the backup, servicing and warranty issues that may occur.

I know that I'm not going to get the best possible price, but that's the way it goes, with the mileage creeping up at a considerable rate of knots with all of the extra running around for groceries, medical equipment, medication etc, I think that the penalty payments will be considerable, I thought it might be £100-150,but I think it might well be more than that.

As for the current car, I love it to bits, nowt wrong with it whatsoever. Its performed far better than whatever I expected, the new one will have Admunsen satellite navigation, heated windscreen, folding mirrors, adaptive cruise vice ordinary cruise control and the extended black pack, which I think will make the car look smart and understated.

You don't have to worry. Broadspeed, Carfile and Carwow (among others) are effectively just doing the haggling for you. You still purchase through a dealer. It just saves the face-to-face "what is the best price you can do" etc etc.

The dealers contact you with their 'best price' and you just choose which one you want to buy from. Might be more difficult if you want a service plan included, if the best price given is not at your local dealer.

Your worried about the excess mileage charge but not the £5800 deposit you have to find? If your changing for cost it doesn't add up.

Might be more difficult if you want a service plan included, if the best price given is not at your local dealer.

My understanding is that the Skoda service plan you buy with the new car allows you to get done servicing at any official Skoda Garage, not just the you bought it from. I bought the plan specifically because I had this confirmed by the selling dealership.

Others... Am I right or have I been cheated?!
