Insurance ... OUCH !

Featured Replies

'Top Cashback' are currently offering £52.50 cashback when purchasing a Direct Line policy. The offer ends tomorrow apparently. I've just bitten the bullet with this, so if the cashback tracks successfully I'll have paid £281.47 compared with my Hastings Direct renewal price of £453.88!!

insurance is funny take direct line and tesco

tesco maybe cheaper but its underwritten by directline so DL still would get your business. what applies to one firm the other sees differently.

Tesco has not been underwritten by directline for sometime now, they now have their own organisation known as Tesco Underwriting and partner with Ageas UK and Tesco Bank.

LV.com has been competitive for me for a couple of years but as others have said shop around every year, both on the comparison sites & with the direct insurance sales ones as insurance companies don't reward loyalty!

I also found NFU surprisingly competitive, LV.com only beat their quite because I had another product with them & got a discount.

I'm the same age and have the same NCD. I'm 4 miles away from you and my premium with Direct Line was £339.

What amazed me was the premium reduced by £50 if my wife was added as a second driver (was 389)! I thought it would increase.

Edit to add... premium includes protected ncd and legal.

I'll give them a call at renewal time, I'll probably get Hastings Direct to cover the car until the end of the insurance period when it arrives in March.

Is yours garaged as mine isn't but its kept on Private Property not on the street?

Off street in the front garden. Not Garaged.

As comments above - LV= have looked after me/us for the last eight or nine years since MoreThan did a hike. Renewal through the door today, £281.63, for a 190 L&K, 4x4, DSG, fully comp, one other named driver (SWMBO - whose own Yeti is also LV=), £300 xs, and up to 15000 miles a year work and business in UK and Europe (I'm a company director).

That includes Legal Insurance (£23.65), G'teed Courtesy Car (£18.90) and Foreign Use for the year fully comp (£18.90), so I could shave another £61.45 off if I didn't want frills. I've never needed to make a claim (maybe why it's so low - no claims is 9 years/79.5% max), but Which? recommend them highly. And at that price, I don't bother to look around believing in a long term relationship...seems to pay off for me.

(Other than car insurance which renews automatically no relationship with LV=).

I was with DL for about 10 years, then out of interest about 6 years ago thought U'd look at comparison sites- 2.0 Mondeo (I was 35 at the time). DL £850, Hastings £380..... called DL and they got it down to £700, but too little too late....! Would never touch DL again!

You will never get the best deal on renewal unless you check a comparison site....fact

Except of course from the insurers who don't use those sites - like mine. And of course you are also paying commission to the site too.

Just bought through Collect the Meerkat fully comp £155.49 before legal and protected.  Checked DL, LV, etc but could not get cheaper, I do feel for you Londoners up there in the bad lands.  However you do have luxurious things like restaurants, theaters, museums night clubs and most importantly shops, unlike us down here in pasty land!  One M&S and NO decent shops or shopping malls in the entire b***** county,   Now all I need is Saturday to come around so that I can go to a dealer just off the M25 to get a car to drive on the policy, see what I mean?

Just reread the first post on this thread, I was with Swinton for my Octy and when I asked for a quote on the Superb the best that they could offer was £286.00 which the could not drop even when I fell about laughing.
