Maxi dot on pre fl

Featured Replies

Are the numbers in the same place, but with a different backing?

If so, couldn't you just swap out the vRS dial backs into the non-vRS cluster?

Just phoned Shark to ask how much they charge to retrofit a Maxidot cluster, unfortunately they don't offer that service anymore.

Where did you source the tacho/speedo from?

  • 2 weeks later...

You need VAG Commander, not VAG Tacho (I think that's used for the mk4 platform)

Do you have the SKC for your immobiliser? Sometimes it came on a plastic tag with the car.

Here's a guide on fitting :)

Anyone tried this?

Will this work with 2nd hand cluster or only with new one?

Yes it will work with a second hand cluster :)

There are two pre-fl diesel maxidot clusters on eBay at the minute for £50.

Bargain!

Good to hear that!

How about SKC, do i need it and where i get it? I think i dont have it.

How much was driven your "new" cluster before swap?

I found pretty cheap maxidot cluster for vrs. But, seller says that he dont have idea about mileage.

It might be more driven than my car. Is it problem?

No the mileage can be recoded.

Does anyone with a pre-fl with Maxidot know if the DPF light also shows up a warning in the Maxidot display?

I have non VRS clocks to go in my VRS and Eddie says that it'll be missing the DPF light once I swap them over.

Does anybody know of anyone in the northeast  can do this?

My clocks are not working properly ( rev counter not working and clock/trip resets every time I switch off) I want to swap them out, I'm not even bothered about Maxidot a swap to a standard set would be fine so long as mileage can be matched.

Spoke to my local Skoda dealer and the will only fit new clocks at a cost of nearly £500 for clock plus fitting, they are not willing to fit second hand :(

Is it simply because the non vrs pre FL diesels didn't have a dpf so the non vrs clocks don't have the light?

Yes, apparently so.

I'm not overly concerned, the DPF light has never come on but would be handy to know there was a warning there somewhere if needed.

What about the scout and 4x4 2.0 TDI?

They both had a dpf on a pre-fl.

I wasn't aware of that. Maybe they have a different dash set up too?

Yesterday i got "new" second hand cluster.

Now im trying to get vag commander to work with genuine ross-tech hex+can cable.

Tried all version from 1.4 to 5.5 with no luck. Is it even possible?

You will not get VAG Commander to work with a Ross Tech lead as these are for use with VCDS software only

Not quite true Mike ;)

HEX-CAN leads can be used with other software but ross-tech obviously won't give any support for any software than their own.

From what I understand, you need to use VCDS to put the HEX-CAN into 'dumb' mode, then install the virtual com port driver ( http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/usb/virtual-com-port.html ) and probably update which driver windows is binding to the device. There is much more info here: https://sites.google.com/site/imnuts/home/install-setup-ross-tech-vcp-drivers

I've no idea if it's possible to pull out the SKC from a MK2 Octavia cluster using this method and if it does work OBY please let me know :)

From ross-tech:

4.16  How do I use my Ross-Tech interface with software made by other companies?

Ross-Tech only supports and guarantees the use of our hardware with our software and vice-versa so do NOT contact Ross-Tech for help with what follows. You may find other software that claims to work through our hardware such as GIAC Flashloader, Revo Technik Lemmiwinks,  Unitronic UniSettings, or Webasto ThermoTest. If you encounter difficulty using a HEX interface with one of these programs, try going into the Options screen in VCDS, click Test, uncheck "Boot in Intelligent Mode", then click Test again. Doing that should put the interface into "dumb" mode so it acts as a normal ISO-9141-2 interface. Beyond that, you are on your own. :-)

Yes, i did all that. But no luck.

Vag commander v. 1.4 gave me some information. It let me in channel 07 kombi. But didnt give any info about cluster.

v. 3.6 just say port open failed.

Other versions just trying to connect target unit but no response.

Laptop what im using is from my brother. Running now win 8.1 and there is alot updates, win 10 is coming. Should i update it?

I've no idea OBY :) This is something I've not tried as the FL uses immo 5 (I think the pre-FL is immo 4) and the guide you have is for immo 3 (MK1 Octavia?).

I don't think you'll be able to do anything with Vag commander v1.4-v5.5 as they are simply too old. If you really want to pull out SKC and do mileage correction then I think you need a genuine recent SDVI or similar which is expensive.

Might be worth asking Eddie-NL what he uses as I know he has the right equipment for pre-FL and FL clusters.

Is it simply because the non vrs pre FL diesels didn't have a dpf so the non vrs clocks don't have the light?

My 2008 pre-fl (BLS engine) have the DPF light and even a proper message is displayed on the maxi-dot.

Thanks, this is good news :)

So even if I don't get a light I should get the written warning.

Anyone swapped non vrs maxidot to petrol vrs? Does it work?

They got different dial fascia and that mightt be possible swap too?

Skodateile.cz selling new maxidot clusters. Vrs clusters are sold out, but they got non vrs ones (1Z0 920 842B).

I'm petty sure they would work

Can you read your SKC / Pin Code?
