Calling all obsessive car cleaners - lets talk about traffic film remover

Featured Replies

Good morning all,

I've just come across something called traffic film remover as a pre treatment when it comes to washing your car

im thinking of getting some with a sprayer- does anyone have any experience of it?

cheers

It's very nasty stuff. It'll shift anything so we use it as work for cleaning engines etc but it's best not to use it on paint. Fine for wheels though

I sometimes wonder if this is the stuff the hand car wash guys spray all over your car before washing it.

If it's Power Maxed TFR it's perfectly safe on paint, Dilute it to 50-1 as recomended on the 5 ltr Bottle, you can also buy a litre bottle to use straight away

If used correctly it wont remove wax, sealents etc etc

It sure is. Although the majority of car washes will use the cheapest TFR and it will be diluted so much that it won't affect the car in any way. I used to have my own valeting business but we only used Autoglym TFR. As long as its diluted correctly and not sat on the car for too long (or in direct sunlight) then it will be fine.

Auric +1

I also use the Power Maxed TFR, not every time only when it looks 'grubby', my car was treated from new with GardX which I use to finish off when I use the TFR, not had any problems with either and when towelled off the rain just beads nicely and runs off. Come summer it will get polished up again but in the mean time the above seems to work well.

There do seem to be some TFR's that are only good for engine and chassis but the Power Maxed seems fine. I bought mine on Ebay 2.5l on a 'buy it now offer', they agreed to send post free! Should last me a few years .

There are plently of makes out there, like Auric Goldfiger said some are safer than others. When/if you use it don't let it dry on the paint work, as it may cause staining.
