50-70

You honestly think that with 122bhp, 125lb/ft of torque, petrol N/A car, the times I have provided are slow?? They are very similar to the stock vRS from what I can see :D Actually, I gotta double check that 50-70 in 4th. Put that from what I remember, but not somethin i concentrated on. Others are very correct though, from what I gathered anyway. I won't be surprised if you come up with something to push that back, like we did so many, many threads ago, remember? :D

John:

Awww... Yeah I would :D

To be honest... I'd expect a standard vRS to be quicker than the standard 2.0 and figures back that up.

Yours, well if its up 7 bhp should be nowt in it. In gear times wont be as good, but you can rev it higher, so horses for courses really.

The standard vRS feels fast, and is fast in short distances, at fairly low revs. If you really go for it though, theres not that much left and its a bit disappointing. Remapped ones are a different story, but they are still diesels, and are still not as fun BHP for BHP as a petrol engine, IMHO of course :D

Just done a rough timing on the way home.

Remapped 2005 spec Fabia vRS:

50-70mph in 4th gear is a tad under 3 secs.

Didn't time 30-50. Might do later on.

OK, so did a 30-50mph run this (frosty!) morning.

30-50mph in 3rd gear is 3.5 secs.

50-70mph in 4th gear is 3.0 secs (rounded up for arguments sake).

Again, these are only rough times & speeds are taken from the car's speedo.

I have to ask----

Are these times being done by cruising at 50, then flooring it, or flooring it from 40mph and simply seeing how long 50 to 70 takes? Its just momentum is on your side then, and I believe times should be done by cruising at 50, then hitting the stopwatch and throttle pedal at the same time. This is why I was so impressed with 3.5 seconds, as it was a cruise at 50, then WOT to 70. No way I could get that down to 3 seconds without cruising at 40 and then WOT, timing just from 50 to 70. :)

Whats the official Top Gear (etc) magazine way of doing 50-70, 30-70 etc?

60-120 times anyone, in 4th for the petrol cars :D

11.1 :D

Your kidding right? Even 225 bhp hot hatches like the Megane 225 can only do 60-100 in about 9.7 secs' date=' so I find that VERY hard to believe.

With a 50-100 time like that, I reckon your looking at allegedly 13 secs or less from 0-100!!!!!

As always, a thread full of exaggerated figures [/quote']

Not really, the megane is has similar inline performance to my lower powered car. How fast a car is in a straight line is down to power as apposed to torque. The mid range is determined by torque as apposed to power - and i have lots more than a megane.

But these threads always turn to toss, so could you advise me of what times i should achieve and i will stick to them just for you :orb_cool_

I was trying my new cars 70-100 but the funny thing was, every time it hit 88mph the tyres caught fire and i ended up at the beginning of the road again

I called the manufacturer and seemingly i have a flux capacitor problem :(

My times were taken when cruising.

You mention that there is a bit of lag when you tried the 50-70 run. There is absolutely no lag when I tried.

Yeah, I get bad lag sometimes. :o Hazard of big FMIC and 50mm pipework throughout my turbo pipework system. Its just something to drive around I guess. ;)

Running big boost applications have their pro's & con's.

If the run was from 50-100mph, I've no doubt you would have the quicker time.

Another consideration is the gearing. Mine is the later spec gearbox & 4th gear @ 50mph is more or less, peak (remapped) torque.

As a reference, my repmobile managed:

30-50mph in 3rd: 3.2 seconds

50-70mph in 4th: 5 seconds

Both were done by cruising at 30 or 50 and then booting it. Did manage a 4 second 50-70 but haven't managed to repeat that as yet  Maybe when the roads quieten down............

Chris

As I've said before, people dont realise how "quick" some "big" cars are as standard.

Velma did 30-50 in 5 seconds just now (3rd gear)

Was going for the 50-70 but ran out of road, was a bit hairy for a few seconds:eek:

Its alright I dont want you to say you did it in x just to please me. Believe what you want to believe, just dont be surprised when you get beaten by a car that apparently takes approximately 4 seconds longer to do 50-100 than your car.

Its all very well timing with a stopwatch, but its not very accurate is it. I've done it myself in the past, and I have to concede it was a pretty pathetic way to test a car, as every car I ever did it in was way faster than what they are on paper. I even managed somehow to get 0-60 in just over 10 seconds in a 1.0 Nova... now thats clearly not very accurate, and its just goes to prove, most people claims are not only wrong, but they are meaningless.

Anyway, I'm done with this thread - enjoy your Fabia vRS that has 170 bhp and yet can accelerate as quickly as a car with 300 bhp. ;)

I have proof that my car is fast if that is what you need Paul

xx

P.S My 305 hp Volvo 850 T5 did 9 seconds and my 200hp E30 M3 did it in 12 seconds and my standard Fabia did it in 14 seconds.

60-120 times anyone' date=' in 4th for the petrol cars :D

I'm usually still in 3rd until about 105 :D :D

My old Volvo took 14 seconds to do 60-120 - your vRS was a beast !!!!!!!

hi, i did some timings yesterday and have used the average figures from around 6 runs on each. my car is a fabia vrs with a cupra intake and green filter and a dragon digital tunning box on setting 16. timmings where done on the same stretch of road fairly flat slightly damp weather conditions.

30-50 in 3rd = 3.5 secs

50-70 in 4th = 3.2 secs

the timmings where taken using a digital stop watch cruising at 30 or 50 and pressing the watch at the same time as accelerating

How are people measuring this? Counting whilst watching the speedo, using a watch whilst watching speedo?

The best way with equipment that’s easy to get hold of is to use a mobile phone to record a video of the speedo, ensuring to correct for parallax and bearing in mind that 50mph is about 52 on the speedo and 70mph is around 73-74 on the speedo. Worth checking with GPS on your own car since things vary.

So, can we have some accurate times or even better still can people post the videos? Otherwise these kind of numbers don't really tell us anything!
