Octavia VRS - recommended VCDS adaptations + etiquette of contacting a VCDS owner

Featured Replies

As a (very) new Octavia III VRS owner it's been through these forums that I've become aware of VCDS adaptations that can retrospectively enable features that weren't included at the time the car was built.

Having just purchased a relatively new (registered May 2015) used petrol VRS from a local franchise dealer I obviously made the choice to go with whatever options the car had and I'd really like any opinions out there as to what options I should consider (asking someone very nicely) to enable via VCDS that make the most difference in everyday driving.

As the car has lane assist and the basic light assistant I think I'm correct that high beam assistance (HBA) can be enabled relatively easily so could be considered a bit of a "no brainer" to enable?

In terms of the etiquette of contacting a VCDS owner, I've found the Google Owners map and once I have the ability to PM on the site is it just a case of getting in contact with those owners closest?

Thanks in advance for any responses

Basically, yes :)

On a vRS look at having these enabled:

HBA

Cornering Fogs

Both rear fog lights

Traffic Sign Recognition if you have Columbus

Passenger Mirror Dip on Reverse

Rear Teardrop Wipe

You could ask here to see if anyone is able to help out with enabling Andy's suggestions.

Which of these could I get done on a standard spec scout?

Also, what is teardrop wipe?!

Thanks

Also, what is teardrop wipe?!

It's the extra wipe which occurs a few seconds after the manual wash cycle. Can be specified on either front or back.

Thanks Andyvee and John999boy for the replies.

A quick search on this forum (and a general Google search of the www) turns up some pretty strong opinions both for and against cornering fogs so a quick follow-up question is if enabled via VCDS is this a permanently "on" feature, e.g. as long as the right circumstances are met the relevant front fog will always come on or can you disable the feature/behavior in-car?

I don't think I've turned either front or rear fogs on yet but can I assume that there are left and right rear fogs lamps but by default only one will come on?

I've got an Amundsen unit so I assume traffic sign recognition is out.

Passenger mirror dip on reverse sounds like a really useful feature - is this part of a factory enabled option or just a clever use of what's possible with VCDS (I'm guessing teardrop wipe probably falls into the latter category)?

Both lamps are fitted, but in the UK only the right one is enabled. In my opinion having both fogs on masks the brake lights when they are located near each other, as they are on the Octavia.

Doesn't seem to work on the front though

Once enabled they are permanently enabled, but only work below about 25mph and that speed can be adjusted with VCDS

I just had cornering fogs enabled by higgy 69 - he's in wantage:  http://www.briskoda.net/forums/user/57991-higgy-69/  nice chap, knows what he's doing with vcds.

I'm oxford too btw.  If you see a primer grey 230 that looks like it's been stolen, that'll be me.

agree, i'm happier having a single rear fog.
