Tunnel light function turns off and on main beam with start/stop function

Featured Replies

Hello

I have a 2015 MY15 Style edition with LED headlight and RLHS and at night when the main beam is on, and I stop at an intersection for red light, and the start/stop function kicks in and turns off the engine, then sometimes, when the engine starts again, the lights switches to DRL LED and back again to main beam, as if the RLHS forgets that it is night and the main beam should be on. Not that the corner light stays on.

It is not every time that it does it, it seems that it accrues only if the engine has been of a certain amount of time.

Skoda Denmark have looked at the car and says there is nothing wrong. It does not bother me that much, it is more that the car in front might think that I am flashing my lights at them for not moving fast enough at green light. Someday it might be a person that takes it the wrong way and gets mad.

Video that shows it.

I am surprised it hasn't been classified "a feature" by skoda

all very strange though,

its a bit like if you stall the engine when you restart it manually the headlights go off as you start the engine, I assume to provide maximum power to the starter motor

That is weird and must be wrong, my wife has a new Polo with LED headlights and I'm certain that the LED headlights remain on when the engine auto stops, and remain on while and when the engine auto starts - this I think is what you are expecting to happen. I'm also guessing that this is one of the reason why LED headlights are becoming popular with modern cars.

Edit:- I am guessing that you are meaning "autolights" when you say "tunnel light function" - also you call them "main beam" when I hope that you are meaning "dipped beam".

Yes in denmark it's called main beam as it is your main light, and must always be on, except on wary new cars that have DRL/LED. And Skoda denmark advertises the autolight as tunnel light, that's what they call the function.

I can not find any others that are eperiencing this issue, so I conclude that it's my car that is acting strange.

Do somebody know if I can log all the communication in the car, meaning that VCDS could log when one module sends a command to another, hoping to record what module tells the light function to switch to day mode and back to night mode??

Personally i think i would have the Main Light on all the time giving front and rear lights,

and disable both the DRL's and the Stop/start because it seems to be 'not fit for purpose and actually dangerous',

At least until the Skoda Dealer has the system working safely and reliably.

Its good practice to turn the headlights off when starting a vehicle anyway

Not 'Simply Clever' though if on the Public Highway in the dark and the lights extinguish as a vehicle fires up or DRL's come on.

Maybe an idea for Skoda to enable Hazard Lights while the lights go out.

Or fit decent sized batteries and at the very least have Sidelights front & Rear & Dim Dip to the front stay on while Stop/ Start operates.

DRL's (Daytime / Daylight Running Lights) to the front should not be operating when it is dark.
