Someone make and options decision for me!

Recommended Posts

Right I've cancelled the £120 'automatic retractable parcel shelf option' as it turns out you get a parcel shelf as standard on the SE L executive so I've still got the another option or mix of options to go with up to a value of £200 out of the following:

Travel assist with traffic sign recognition £85 less discount

Heated windscreen washer jets £50 less discount

Sun blinds for rear side windows £175 less discount

Rear backrest release from boot £90 less discount

Fold flat front passenger seat £100 less discount

LED package plus £195 less discount

Car is a SE L exec Combi corrida red with 18" Pegasus alloys

Options already going for

Space saver spare wheel

Partition screen netting

Will be a family car for wife and 1 baby and 1 4 year old.

I can't decide but am leaning towards just the LED light package or travel assist with heated windscreen nozzles......... Help! Need to tell garage tomorrow

Yeah I recognise them the only problem is I then forget them! Spent quite a bit of today driving around fast country roads of Sussex and was surprised how many times I thought I was in a 60 zone only to discover I was in a 40 or even 30 - I must be getting old

Can the Travel assist with traffic sign recognition be enabled afterwards by VCDS ?

Maybe the sun blinds as you have the kiddies ?

Partition screen netting - one which i would order i think - perfect for family trips when needing to load the car to the roof ?

Rear back rest release is a waste for my usage as its used only a handful of times a year.

Heated Washer jets - just use decent -15 rated screen wash.

Fold flat passenger seat - is it really needed ?

I keep reading all these treads about enabling some features by VCDS after purchase. is this easy to do ones self without much expense or are their ppl on forum who can do it?!

reading your replies the more I'm leaning towards the LED package plus

Theres a full section on the forum for this - plenty of members will do it in exchange of a gift - beer or cash etc..

The LED is a nice touch... though from some of the reports say its a bit dim in the day, so maybe its a "winter" type option v the long days of summer... ???

Go LED out of all your options.

This, but tbh there's hardly much in it. Folding passenger seat, rear seat release etc is probably something you'll never use. I don't know about you but in my current car I drop the seats from the boot, then end up having to go round, open doors and fix seatbelts/headrests/move things anyway - so I may as well have dropped the seats at that time and done it all in one go. :D

Have you already specced colour maxidot? If it's DSG paddles are worth a shout too. But yes, from your list I'd personally just spec the LED package and have done with it.

OK ... I have a Yeti so am unsure whether yours has a heated windscreen as standard.. If not they are fantastic. They don't just defrost the screen but if you get in soaked with rain the heated screen stops condensation quicker than using the demister.

When the Yeti goes back at the end of lease I may look at other manufacturers BUT the car will have to have a heated screen.

Yes

Out of your list the LED package would be at the top, closely followed by colour maxidot (not on your current list)

yes I have specd the colour maxi dot already. forgot about that one ! I like the heated front screen had an old ford escort ghia that had that years ago and it was great but I'm a bit loathed to pay the best part of £300 for it when it only gets used a handful of times over the year. i think it sounds like I'm going for the LED package.

Derv - it's manual so no dsg paddles. re boot release I was convincing myself as you that they are little pointless as the I'll have to remove the kids car seats before dropping them anyway so it's not hard to pull the traditional levers anyway and if you say headrests and seatbelt a still get in the way it's almost pointless except for being a good party piece!

Out of your list, I would go for the sunblinds in the rear side windows.

Much better at keeping sun off the kids than aftermarket stick-on-with-a-sucker types, as they are tailored to the window shape and cover most of the glass. And they just retract into the door when you don't need them.

Had them on our last Mondeo, and got them on our S3.

We've got travel sign recognition too, but personally I think it's a complete waste of time.

Just leave the Nav screen on and the speed signs appear on that (even without a route defined). I know it's probably not in front of you, but periphery vision still covers it.

Does the SE-L get the better headlights (I can remember) ?

How about the 'magic boot opening' thingy ? Ideal for shopping and holding the hands of younger ones near the road..  I'm an oldie and even I've had plenty of time when I could have done with it..

As for heated washers, I think there are more things to worry about with the washers than them being blocked! There's another thread on washers although it does say Skoda have a fix for it but as mine goes back week after next week I can't be asked to endure the dealer again. Read up and ensure they apply the fix before delivery to you.

Enjoy the car - it's great, really great. Going to miss mine...

Variable boot floor? Makes the rear floor flat, but can be lowered if you need (even)more space.

Heated windscreen is nice as it has a foil layer that reflect the sun as well, but is £300!

Roll-out rubber/fabric boot liner from SuperSkoda for £75ish delivered. Order online. Has 2 flaps that cover the rear seats when one or both are folded down and a flap that pulls over to cover the rear bumper when loading so you don't damage that lovely red paintwork:-SUPERB-III/VARIABLE-LOADING-FLOOR

A bit cheaper for the standard floor option from same supplier.

I have my SEL for a few weeks now and if i could change/add anything it would be to add the LED Package. As jstallan said above, with the satnav screen displayed it shows what the speed limit is for the area anyway. It may not be as pricise as the TSR, but it works.

Last week i would have said heated front screen as i had had enough of defrosting it 4 mornings in a row, but hopefully we're coming to the end of that now for a while.

Ditto, LED plus colour maxidot, I use the maxidot more than the dashboard main screen just wish I had gone for the colour version which is bigger I think. On the LED package a few folks complain it's a bit dim in daylight that wouldn't bother me, but on an evening with the option to change colours would add a very upmarket touch

I think the size of the display is the same, but it looks MUCH nicer in colour ;)

Ah well if it's the same size I don't feel too bad now, graphics and resolution on the standard are ok with me.

There is certainly nothing ‘wrong’ with the black and white maxidot... just be sure you do not go looking for a colour one, as only then will you realise how much nicer the colour one is.  :D

Don't bother with the remote seat release things in the boot. Waste of cash. Go with the LED plus package and maybe push for the heated washer nozzles if the discount can stretch it.

TSR is pretty handy as you can set dynamic speed limit warnings. I keep getting my wrist slapped by it but I'm gradually learning to behave myself a little more. That was courtesy of VCDS.

I don't know why Skoda are intent on calling the colour screen a 'maxidot' display. That name goes back donkeys years when the old 7 segment liquid crystal displays could be upgraded to a dot matrix monochrome screen. The colour display on the S3 is way beyond a dot matrix. It's more like a TFT display if anything.

I was gonna say the sunblinds with kids in the back as the skoda finger catching safety feature prevents you from using aftermarket ones. Led stuff is a bit naff / gimmicky imho.
