I know that this is a 220 thread so apologies for a bit of hijacking, but anyone have e any experience of how the new 190 petrol compares to it in real world driving, especially when it's full of the family and stuff ?   I've driven one just myself and felt fine...but that was the same with a 1.4 Kodiaq, which turned out to hopeless when full up.  Coming off a 230 petrol VRS, looking at Superbs, and don't think I can really justify a 280. thanks   ..also, any idea why they changed the engine from 220 to 190 ?  Just for economy?

Expect the 190 to be slower (less power and torque) but better on fuel, also has the better 7 speed DSG too rather than the 6 speed. It will be fine fully loaded up for this size of car, just don't expect it to set your pants on fire.

 

I'd expect the change was mostly economy/emissions related and the fact that the 220 eventually became 245 elsewhere in Skoda and VW group cars, which puts it too close to the 272/280 whilst leaving too big a gap between that variant and the 1.5 TSI. People swapping what would have been 2.0 diesel (150ps-190ish) purchases in the past, for petrol now, don't necessarily want 245ps. The bulk of Superb sales are under 200ps.

Dragging this up, did anyone ever have a confirmed higher stock output from the 220 engine?

Looking at doing a remap but not wanting the full 300bhp that most quote, would be happy with 240 - 280

Gandalf (MY17 Superb 220 FWD) is currently on Stg 3, producing 400 hp 550 Nm at the wheels.

Previously I ran Stg 1 for approx 5 yrs before going to Stg 2 briefly then Stg 3 last year.

I've had no issues with any of the stock hardware over the many years.

The Stg 1 was an APR Hi-torque tune producing 300 hp 540 Nm at the wheels.

Supporting mods then were R600 intake, turbo inlet pipe and elbow. I also had a TCU tune, which made a big difference.

Now I've got an IE intercooler & downpipe, Garrett Powermaxx Turbo with stronger injectors.

The Galano TCU tune has a Boost-by-Gear function that is specific for the FWD, that does an impressive job putting the power down through the front wheels without wheel spin.

Thanks @JR RS so these can take a tune quite well then, maybe I will go for the 300hp as these seems run around 230-40 stock by the look of it.

Just that I have read the gearbox is limited to 350nm but not sure if that is true

Hey mate, yes we have after it having to go back 3 times and then them destroying my 12v step down for the USB, I have a service as part of the plan this month and can’t find anything to replace it with that would be worth while so have decided to keep it for now.

Definitely not the case - these DQ250 gearboxes can take up 600Nm with the stock clutch, but needs a TCU tune to cope with additional power.

Any higher n u'll need to start changing clutch hardware.

Sorry that’s what I meant that they are limited to that with stock tube so a retune to match a stage 1 would allow the use of the additional torque provided by the remap
