The phone box device. How do I know if I have it

Featured Replies

Hi chaps. May sound silly question but as I brought my Octavia 3 2nd hand I have no idea if the box in front of the gear lever with closing lid and tiny light inside is a storage compartment or the phone box feature. How do I know and does it have any settings with on the balero unit. My phone connects via Bluetooth fine if that is of any use in answering

Regards

Chris

The storage thing doesn't really do anything. Skoda claim its designed to boost signal but I've even used a cell tower signal strength app and it makes no difference. If that's what you're referring to?

If you've not got satnav I think you'll still have the "fin" on the roof if you've got the phone box.

It has a phone emblem in the rubberised mat if it has it. It's just dimpled if it doesn't.

Any one tried to retrofit it? and does it work?

John

Yes it works, and retrofitting would be painful as you need to run a coax cable to the sharks fin, assuming you have the GSM & GPS Sharksfin.

I could see a definite change in signal strength when using an app on my phone

might have a look at if any of the cables are already in, I have the correct shark fin as have sat-nav. and the extra modules are availible second hand.

Confirm there here too.

I don't use mine as I kept forgetting my phone was in it when partking up

Doesn't the info screen remind you to take your phone before leaving the car?

Yes, but my phone is always with me, and it doesn't differentiate between being in that box or my pocket. Because it always does it, I don't think mom even aware of that message anymore.

I tell it "Yes, I know, I know!", then automatically check where it is. Unless I forget to switch on the phone's bluetooth, then the car doesn't tell me and I forget to take the phone.

Ha ha cheers chaps. No sharkfin, no sat nav and no phone emblem in the box. Just a storage area for me then

Another place to put something in then forget about!

I always have the phone in my pocket, except when I don't. :)

So often I get that message when turning the engine off and go "yeah mate, whatever, bit patronising yeah" and then I get into the house and realise the phone's still in the car.

I'd like it to ask me if I've got the phone with me as I get in, rather than drive 50 miles and then find out I've left the ruddy thing at home.

rats and double rats, will have to see what I have.
