Paint cracking in roof channel

Featured Replies

After giving the car a wash, I found this on my roof. I believe some others on here have had the same issue, but I haven't found the threads.

Car's still under warranty so hopefully wont be a problem.

How did others get on with getting it sorted and what did they do to fix it?

The mk2 also did this.

I had no joy on that, but it was 4 years old at the time.

I was told that brisk driving causes it as the body flexes.

Though that's really bad on yours all the way down. Just on one side?

I've only found it in one place at this point, its about 6 inches in total.

I really hope they don't try and go down the "brisk driving causes it as the body flexes" route!

Surely that excuse holds no water??

'Here's your new 2.0 TSI, don't drive it briskly or the paint will fall off. Don't come crying to me if it happens'.

I would leave it in the forecourt with 'don't drive it quick the paint will fall off' in big vinyl lettering down the side!!

It is a gap between sheets, filled with a flexible sealant; I guess that's why it may crack.

See the production (here an example from Oct2) @ 10:50 time:

I had this problem, about 1 inch crack,  was fixed under warranty with not issues, they repainted the whole roof.

Spot on, hence why as the body flexes it cracks.

I'm sure it's not just a Skoda only issue.

Though my issue is long term what happens once water gets under the paint.

How old is the car?

Is it a MY15 or MY16?

This is not good, it dosent bode well if you have a cambered steep drive as you can here the body flexing anyway, now im going to always be looking at the roof to see if the paints cracked.

If it's warrantied try insisting they get the paint repaired by shorade in cannock. They deal with paint work on luxury cars, Porsche, mclarens and from the what they did with mine they know what they are doing

It's a 2013 car, (63) so just in general warranty still. They had a look at it and said they'll send the pics off for approval. That was about a month ago and no reply. I'd better get back in touch I think.
