  • Hydrogen will be the leap forward. Infrastructure, battery technology, and insufficient lithium reserves mean battery power will never become mainstream

  • VAG will find a way to fit complex drive belts that need changing every 4 years and DSG that will be ultra reliable.....

  • Believe it or not, London congestion charge is not an issue for the vast majority of us living in the UK.

Has anyone seen this documentary on Lithium extraction and Cobalt mining?

https://p.dw.com/p/38vpF

It tells a pretty grim story about the impacts on people, wildlife and the environment. However it also links these problems to the demand for EV batteries which smells of a hatchet job because these materials are also required for the billions of phones, tablets, laptops, etc that we all use. While EV batteries are massive compared to phones, etc, the numbers are relatively low. I wonder what proportion of output goes for vehicles as opposed to consumer electronics?

Our LMP batteries do not use cobalt or any other rare earth elements.  A part from our own EVs we are working with Mercedes for 400 kWh unit for their 12m buses.  Our 12m buses use supercapacitors more than even the battery for normal operation.

Third world mining methods aren’t relevant to Australia which will be a major source when the demand ramps up.

Edit: Sorry. I messed up quote boxes. Can't figure out how to go to plain text editor in this quick editor. Bold text are quotes. The two paragraphs and embedded video are my content.

Electric Nation have completed world's largest smart charging trial:

http://www.electricnation.org.uk/2019/02/01/electric-nation-completes-the-worlds-largest-ev-smart-charging-trial/

Quote
  • Smart charging can be a key solution to easing the impact of increasing numbers of EVs on the electricity network
  • Initial findings suggest that there is sufficient flexibility in EV home charging behaviours to manage charging away from peak electricity demand periods
  • Electricity Distribution Network Operators have options to influence and, if necessary, manage EV home charging behaviours

That is smart charging, which is essentially charging during off peak times, which most EV owners already do. Smart element can be considered connected charger that changes charging time/rate according to the grid.

Recently, there's also a youtube Fully Charged episode talking about Vehicle to Grid solutions by Engie. I personally think V2G should be the end goal for EV's, energy consumption and renewable generation, smart charging is just a stepping stone.

New Zoe S launched..........   https://www.press.renault.co.uk/releases/2600

  • New Renault ZOE S Edition features BOSE stereo and reversing camera
  • All Renault ZOEs come with a hands-free keycard, rear parking sensors, and automatic wipers and lights
  • Renault ZOE continues to be one of the most affordable 100 per cent electric cars on sale
  • On sale now, the Renault ZOE S Edition is priced from £19,270 OTR (including Plug-in Car Grant)
  • In 2018 Renault was the number one electric vehicle manufacturer in Europe with a 22 per cent market share

Renault has introduced a new version at the top of the Renault ZOE range. The new Renault ZOE S Edition replaces the previous Signature Nav version and brings a host of equipment at a small premium over the Renault ZOE Dynamique Nav. Ordering is open now and deliveries of the ZOE S Edition begin in April.  The fun to drive five-door, five-seat Renault ZOE is practical and affordable. The new S Edition trim aligns the ZOE with the rest of the simplified range of Renault cars and ensures it continues to offer a simple choice with strong value to customers.  Additional equipment includes the BOSE stereo, which includes DAB radio – delivering sharp sound throughout the cabin and acoustics that are tuned to the specific dimensions of the Renault ZOE’s interior. Meanwhile, manoeuvring is easier than ever thanks to the rear parking camera.  All of the seats are finished in a leather and textile covering and comfort is enhanced with lumbar adjustment on the driver’s seat. On the exterior of the Renault ZOE S Edition the customer can choose between 16-inch ‘Black Shadow’ alloy wheels or, at no additional cost, they can upgrade to assertive looking 17-inch ‘Black Optemic’ alloy wheels.

I like the line......  "The final generation of gasoline and diesel engines will be developed by 2026".

Only 7 years to the end of internal combustion engines ie within a single cycle of model/vehicle life.

2026 for a clean sheet design or just another lashup to cope with ever more stringent emissions standards is my question?

I keep hearing about exciting new designs which will make major advances in reduced consumption, but then I come back to the complexity issue and associated maintenance/depreciation costs and BEVs once again become our slam dunk.  Heaps of sunshine, home storage an inevitably expanding infrastructure with 500km range already.

As much as I love complex oily bits, it jus doesn’t make sense for us to throw money away like that.

What a pointless exercise.........what did they expect?.

Pointless is so many ways and rather poor getaway for the Holden which should so a 12s standing quarter not a 13 in dry weather.

The Holden should do a 12 anywhere, any time, in the dry, and does not require a tens of minutes wait to build up to Ludicrous mode.

How come Oz gets a RHD Camaro and the UK does not !!

Bogan ?  Like a red neck ?

New Camaro (version) has a efficient 2 litre engine with 275 hp, more than any Skoda Octavia version, mpg pretty good in the 8 speed !

Yep.

Our version will be the 6.2 V8 only and at around $100k OR it will have to complete with the other drug dealer choices such as the Faz and Lambo.

We aren’t all that good at subtlety.
