The bigger Model X is more efficient. Giving more range at similar battery size.

 

When will traditional manufacturers learn....... putting in bigger and bigger battery isn't the solution. Leaf e+ 60kWh will not magically make it a long distance car, it will have more range than needed for local journey, but still suck at long distance motorway. Local journey is already solved by Leaf back in 2011. High speed efficiency is KEY for long distance capable EV.

Battery Storage at UK Wind Farms is a bid deal as is what Scottish Power are doing with infrastructure now and into the future.

On the Scottish Power website they explain that a "50 MW" battery will be installed at their Whitelee windfarm. That farm is a monster - the biggest in the UK - with a nameplate output of 539 MW. Unfortunately I could not find any more technical info, especially the battery capacity. Given the size of the farm, the battery would have to be many times the size of the huge Tesla unit in Oz to provide any meaningful backup.

So it seems likely that its main function will be to help stabilise the grid, much like the one in Oz.

Does anyone have more tech info which would shed more light?

Stabilising the system has been a magic bullet, it seems, for the integration of conventional electromechanical and modern renewable infrastructure from S.A. experience.

Our , desperate to catch up, Federal Government has finally commenced the upgrade of the Snowy Mountains hydro system to tack on pumped hydro for around £1B but at the cost of Murdoch’s Sky News After Dark panel of hard right semi religious extremists who have been effectively ‘running’ their agenda for more than a decade with their hysterical promotion of coal.

It does look as if we are in the final fading phase of Murdoch political influence. :thumbup:

They should dust off the Joyster and turn out an efficient EV.

Having made the switch I can assure you the 300km minimum requirement is in most cases just a lot of nonsense. My Leaf can do 150 miles before I need to recharge but on every trip I have done so far someone has wanted to stop for the loo, or a break or some food (or a combination of all three) after just over 100 miles. So far it's comfortably coped with trips to Inverness, Aviemore, Belfast, Carlisle and Stafford. Yes if I paid more for a bigger battery I wouldn't need to let the car refuel itself while I was away refuelling myself but once you adjust to the idea that refuelling os something the car does while you're doing something else, you tend not to think of stopping as a fuel thing and more of a comfort thing.

Lots of concept or pre-production EV was announced recently in Geneva motorshow.

Now we no longer have a car manufacturing industry we are just tin importers.

We are in a position now to rapidly adapt to a new (automotive) world order and I sense there is significant anticipation around the imminent arrival of new Leaf/Niro/Kona/eGolf etc.  )))) just imagine an importer’s promotion campaign highlighting minimal fuel or servicing costs.
