Damn new car as arrived but not exactly as ordered

Featured Replies

It's not worth reordering the car for...functionally there is little or no difference between the colour and B&W.....I've had the colour computer on 3 MQB based cars now and absolutely I wouldn't pay extra for it.

If we were talking no maxi dot at all...different story but the B&W one is fine.

Tell them you have now set your heart on B&W Maxidot as you were told you wern't getting the Coloured version.

  • It's almost as if people at this end of the thread haven't even read the last page.

doubt they will retro fit one. skoda wont allow it they dislike retrofitting

Did it on one of mine, no issue and it was a bigger job

Personally I'd want them to retrofit one FOC. They've cocked up, they're cheeky swines offering just a tank of fuel IMO.

Had a call from dealer and my car as landed at the showroom BUT it's arrived without the maxi dot colour screen I ordered.

They have offered me another free tank of fuel if I take it with the black and white screen or i can re order a new car and then potentially wait another 12 weeks.

I am going to dealers in morning to compare the black and white screen against a colour screen.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO.

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I am curtly not a happy chappy at the moment after waiting all this time already.

All my sympathies mate but do not accept this car - it is not what you want and you will be disappointed from day one.

Get your money back and go to another dealer - you know the wait will be worth it.

I know you are as excited as me about your new car as you posted in the delivery thread in answer to my posts but you can't accept a compromise on this; you will never be happy with the car.

I will go and have a look in the morning but at this time I am thinking I want my money back.

You never know but once I see the car in the flesh I may change my mind .

Who knows how it will go till I see it.

We have colour Maxidot but only because it was standard, I wouldn't pay extra for it.

Swap the £50 tank of fuel for a £150 service.

Yes, they messed up and admitted it. £50 and a refund of the difference isn't that bad. What price would you say was fair for a relatively minor spec difference?

Relatively minor spec difference in a piece of equipment you will look at every time you drive it. I agree it's an insult, sorry we ordered the wrong car have 50 quid off your 20k vehicle, there's a good chap....

Do optional extras really mean it's an option if they actually fit it now????

Any error/omission in the specification of a brand new factory ordered car is inexcusable no matter how minor you feel that difference is.  At the end of the day the if a customer orders something the dealer should fulfil that specification.  regardless of if it is a b&w maxi dot or no maxi dot it should not matter. You should get what you order and if you don't, then the dealer should reorder it as a priority at no extra cost to the customer.  They made the mistake, they bear the responsibility....

Some proper over reactions in here IMO. Refund and a tank of fuel is very reasonable for the issue. It's not like it's an incorrect engine. Ultimately the OP has to decide though. I didn't think it was worth the £80 (?) upgrade at the time and I still don't. Maybe the question you should ask yourself shouldn't be can I live with the black and white screen, but is a small colour screen really worth waiting another 12 weeks for? As for retrofitting, not for me. You've not even set foot in it and it'll have been taken apart.

I had a VRS with colour maxi from the dealer whilst I waited for my VRS to be delivered. I didn't spec colour maxi dot and to be honest, I rather like the monochrome look in the centre binnacle, plenty of colour elsewhere, on my Amundsen. It's definitely in the "nice to have " list as opposed to essential.

I'd push for a lot more than free tank of gas though. This IS a **** up after all.

As per Skodev's post - and enjoy your new car.

Its not an issue of should the OP live with it, its an issue of what you order should be supplied.

Absolutely! My sentiments exactly!!! I'd be wanting a bloody sight more than a £50 tank of petrol!!!

Retrofitting wouldn't be that intrusive, the instrument cluster's only held on by a couple of screws at the bottom I think.

Why does it matter what the part is? If you ordered 19" wheels but got the 18"s, would you say the same? "Oh nevermind it's only an inch"? Or if you ordered a (more expensive) HD telly but got a standard one "oh it's only a few pixels different"?

Like what? What would you all see as fair compensation?

Of course the part matters. You can't expect the same value of compensation for receiving a bacon roll instead of sausage as you would ordering a yacht and getting an inflatable lilo.

That is how skoda used to operate? To thr less discerning customer?

I think not these days. Are dealers really so inept

The correct spec. car and use of this one until the correct spec. is delivered. :D

I have the colour one, it's nice but I wouldn't reject the car because of it being missing to be honest. Mine arrived without the folding mirrors I specced - I still took it with a refund and a few other small bits as it was far from a deal breaker.

I also wouldn't allow a retrofit if it was possible. Someone hacking at a brand new dash will never end well.

See how far they'll go in terms of compensation and enjoy the new car.

Well ultimately like I said, it's up to the op. Maybe the facts they're asking shows the colour screen isn't a deal breaker. It wouldn't be for me. Push for a free service then. Another 12 week wait for a small colour screen, for me, isn't worth it.

Put this into perspective. I got £2000 cash goodwill when I had my new octavia.

Options are totally subjective. Some people like to push a start button to start the car and spend £hundreds for the privilege. Isn't the whole point ordering from new and to your own spec so it's how YOU want the car.

Personally I think the B/W maxidot looks appalling and would look appalling in a dacia. To have a wrong one fitted and a constant reminder everytime the car is driven that it is wrong.

I rejected my new car initially. Took months to sort out to satisfactory standard. Got £2000 cash goodwill. Won't buy another one. Don't accept second best.

I'm in the camp of fix it or get lost dealer. 50 quid lol! As mentioned you look at the cluster every drive and you'll never be happy looking at it every time. The B&W looks rubbish IMHO, so glad ours has the colour and being a geek I would have added it if it didn't.

Ive swapped clocks in our old mk5 golf and there really is very little trim to remove and a couple of screws, retrofit would make next to no difference to rattles if the Octy is anything like that was.

Very true. The dash rattle would not be heard over the booming, b pillar rattle, seat rattle and Road noise lol

Yep, that sounds a good result for you for whatever it was for. For me, in this case, waiting 12 weeks for a colour screen that's occasionally used is the second best option here.

On a mk3 ? Skoda uk generally don't like retrofits the answer is usually always no it can't be fitted unless it has been fitted at the factory
