Damn new car as arrived but not exactly as ordered

Featured Replies

Had a call from dealer and my car as landed at the showroom BUT it's arrived without the maxi dot colour screen I ordered.

They have offered me another free tank of fuel if I take it with the black and white screen or i can re order a new car and then potentially wait another 12 weeks.

I am going to dealers in morning to compare the black and white screen against a colour screen.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO.

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I am curtly not a happy chappy at the moment after waiting all this time already.

Tell them you have now set your heart on B&W Maxidot as you were told you wern't getting the Coloured version.

  • It's almost as if people at this end of the thread haven't even read the last page.

Does that include a refund for the price of the colour maxi dot.

Have you got a part-ex which will be devaluing while you await a re-build, or otherwise without a car for another 12 months? I'd be looking for them to keep you mobile in an equivalent vehicle until you have the car you ordered with some proper compensation or be re-ordering from another dealer

Hold out for maxi for screen in colour. If you ordered in the dealership and signed off on the order then they have to put it right! What's a tank of fuel... 50 quid? I d push for more.

They will take the price of for the maxi dot and no I wasn't using a part ex.

I am a bit disappointed really.

Maybe the black n white won't look that bad.

If I don't like it I may ask for my deposit back as I ain't waiting another 12 weeks

I haven't seen the black and white maxi dot but if your screen is not colour, I think it won't show the colours of Lane Assist, telephone signal, doors opening. Minor points but irritating if you ordered it. Retrofitting might be possible but you don't want your new car being messed about with unless retro-fitting isn't too intrusive.

In comparison is there that much difference on the eye

rather than wait twelve weeks tell them to get the colour maxi dot screen into them to fit and code if need be and let them know you require an equivalent car as a courtesy car while the fit is being done.

yes, one's colour, the other isn't.

Also the resolution on the colour screen is higher. Think ZX Spectrum V Super Nintendo.

I read that in Alan Partridge's voice :( lol

I didn't spec a colour maxi dot but if my car came without something I'd specced I'd be ****ed. You really need to think if you can live without it or not but I'm guessing you already did this when you put the order in. I'd want more then just a tank of fuel.

Yes hold out for the colour one. Not only is it much higher resolution, but you lose things like the blue snowflake symbol when cold and the red speed limit signs etc etc. Does not catch the eye as well as the colour.

There was a thread in the last year or so where someone posted a comparison of how they displayed things. Cant find the thread now but remember it being quite clear cut for the colour.

edit: found the thread

Very retrofittable for a dealer. Would not do without mine

I had a VRS with colour maxi from the dealer whilst I waited for my VRS to be delivered. I didn't spec colour maxi dot and to be honest, I rather like the monochrome look in the centre binnacle, plenty of colour elsewhere, on my Amundsen. It's definitely in the "nice to have " list as opposed to essential.

I'd push for a lot more than free tank of gas though. This IS a **** up after all.

Very good comparison. The Black and white screen looks very poor.

I would not want the dash opened up.

Creak creak rattle rattle....

Sounds to me like the dealer thinks ordering the wrong car is a trivial event and they can see you down the road for around 50 quid.

Ultimately it's up to you if you are going to be happy with it.

yeah I can understand that. I was just throwing another option into the mix :)

They messed up, £50 is an insult.

Out of interest which skoda dealer was it?

Just wondering as I've ordered a vrs with colour maxi dot.

I had a similar experience when the dealer got a car in with the wrong colour trim. I didn't accept the £150 further discount they offered. Instead I ordered another to be built and got £750 further discount plus lifeshine for free. Was worth the 8 week wait in my eyes. I think a tank of fuel is a VERY poor offer from them and slightly insulting.

Yes, they messed up and admitted it. £50 and a refund of the difference isn't that bad. What price would you say was fair for a relatively minor spec difference?

Tell them to shove it up their pipe, then, as you will have to wait another 12 weeks, re-order with NEW-CAR-DEAL.co.uk and save yourself 15-20%!!! Every cloud, etc!!!
