Hill Hold Why Not As Standard?

Featured Replies

Well today I was using my mates VCDS and done a few things I have wanted to do for a while.

And now have Hill Hold and XDS and it has completely changed the driving experience of my car..

Why oh why do they not set this for DSG  equipped cars at the time.

Even my manual Merc C class has it  as standard.

I know some will say that its for Volksawgen and Audi  premiums but as the parts are on the car and capable of being coded I think this should be done at factory..

Anyway well happy   for the now just need to source a steering wheel for flappies now and get it covered in brown leather  :dull:

So they can make more money out of us punters and charge £150 or whatever it is to enable it.

Depends on the market, it's standard in 'straya.

You can enable XDS? Interesting! I've not really spent much time with VCDS on my new car yet, but maybe tomorrow I'll have a good play with it.

I would like to up spec my L&K but as I did not know about what vcds could do, I spec my car with virtually everything else.

As long as your ABS module supports it yes XDS can be enabled. I had HHC and XDS enabled by a Brisky member just after getting the car.

There's a list of which modules support what on here that I have posted a couple of times in threads in the past.... Search this section for HHC or XDS and you should see it in one or two of the threads.

Excellent, thanks! I will take a look. I know for a fact I have HHC already, so just XDS. And any more tweaks I can have fun with. I've already got big MPH display :D

Here you go I remembered one of the topics I posted it in....... http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/347812-top-3-vcds-changes-to-your-superb/?p=4175421

The other tweaks I had done when I got the car were the hidden menu on the Columbus and enabling the footwell light adjustment onto the maxidot so that I could turn the footwell lights on or off and then adjust the brightness of the footwell lights when the headlights are on. I do quite a lot of motorway driving so having a little light around the floor area helps find things when passengers drop something etc....

The footwell lighting one seems to be hit and miss as some dealers enable it and others don't when originally prepping the car for the original owner.

It should be fitted just for the safety feature

Just found the VCDS scan on my laptop

1K0-907-37?-BJ ; MK60EC1 (PR-1AT, UG1/UG4)

PR-UG4 = Hill Hold Control (HHC) & Comfort Driving Assist installed

What's the Comfort Driving Assist?

EDIT: Just read that thread a bit more carefully - WD - you said yours was a BE which gives me same result as my BJ model - that means presumably that I can indeed enable XDS?

EDIT2: So apparently I have XDS now. Interesting. I enabled the cruise display - it said the channel went "active" but not working yet, but I read that this isn't always instantaneous.

Do you have the cruise control set speed display set?. Personally I find this really useful, it comes up in bigger numbers when the cruise is on, and smaller numbers when the cruise speed is set but not active. This also gives you exactly 1mph increments both up and down in the set speed when using the rocker switch on the end of the cruise stalk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXITwKow6Wo

This is a FL mod only..... Numerous members including myself have tried on preFL cars without success. ;)

Well I set it - will report tomorrow if it is any different

I heard this was only on diesel cars, and it works on pre FL petrol models.

g_tee has a 1.8TSI so it might be worth a try. If you do a search on this site plenty of people have got it to work.

Gizmo68 seems to confirm it works on earlier petrol versions in post 45 here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/198027-superb-cruise-control/page-2

No, Simbo tried it on his preFL petrol and no joy.

My workaround is to switch to the large speedo display when using the cruise control..... In fact it's the only reason I had it enabled and the only time I select it on the maxidot.:)

Hill hold enabled via vcds on mine but xds would not activate despite correct parts fitted.

vcds displayed "error    channel 36"

reported to Alexa but not heard back from them re a fix.

I enabled XDS and it just said coding accepted. I love how the part sharing means we can take advantage of this.

EDIT - cruise display no worky. Big mph works as a good indicator of speed though.

Go direct to Ross Tech forum instead of Ilexa and post there

You will get better results from that...

Is this Hil hold and XDS only available to top range models like L&K and Elegance or would my facelift SE be able to have it enabled.

Need to do VCDS scan and then look at the link in post 8 above to see if you have the correct abs unit
