Todays drag race - Fabia Vs. Octavia x2

Featured Replies

Troll? I've read about 1000 posts about the mighty Fabia vRS since joining here! So much so that I shy away from themwhen I see them on the roads :)

Unsurprisingly' date=' it's not quick off the line and appears to have strong, but brief, bursts of acceleration just like a Golf TDI. Yes, feels quick when it punches you in the back, but it's not sustained.

Troll?? yes i feel it is a little i'm afraid, only being honest. I steer away from these types of threads usually and the only time i usually enter into a bit of fabia v octy banter is with someone who i have actually put my car up against and know exactly the outcome, for example the chaps race today

Making a comment like

a Fabia vRS can beat anything on the road (even when the other driver is sort of trying!) on a runway they can't? I'm shocked!

adds no value to the thread and is only managing to point and waggle a finger at Jonny5ive who I have never noticed making a post along the lines of "I beat a veyron"

However if it had been at anybody who had made such a comment i would be in agreement,

Since you insist on tarring everybody with the same brush had this been one of a few different fabia's on the forums i can assure you that the outcome would have been very different, would you still be making the same comment??

I digress, i thought that was well carried out and looked great fun Goochie, what an asset to have a runway at your door

It is the one aspect of my current job that I shall miss.

Now I can hear my commentary I realise the Fabia was behind long before 90mph. You can really see where my peak power/torque is, in first and second gear the Fabia is keeping up until the Octavia surges forwards as the engine noise gets greater.

My Octy is almost as fast as your Furby round Knockhill :P :P

damn now i owe bengie a fiver :(

you should get black magic down for a race ;)

Nice race - as pretty much expected the longer 'in-gear' meant the victory :)

Good clean driving & nice one

Good clean driving

Ahem... there is another video of me demonstrating how the Octy is difficult to handbrake turn ;)

There is also an outside video from a camera on a tripod half way up the strip. Will try and get that uploaded later.

Interesting videos.

I take it that the white estate is bengie's.... its clear that the 4x4 system gives such a big advantage on the launch that its enough to win the race by quite a margin. Thats a proper sleeper you have mate!

Thanks to your commentry I make that around 18 seconds to 100 mph (indicated?). Not bad.

To be honest, I never thought for a minute the Fabia would do anything other than lose this race, but it lost by a much bigger margin than I expected.

Just goes to prove that diesels feel fast, but in reality, they aren't that quick. That being said, I'd expect to a remapped Fabia to pretty much beat any other standard warm hatch (like the Fiesta ST for example), if only just.

Based on that, I'd expect someone like Shifty's car would have to be a LOT quicker than Jonny's to compete with the CTR's and 182's of this world.

that ones ready now :)

7mb though

cheers paul :)

Not showing yet but will check when I get home :)

good launch by bengie... but he didnt get away after that..

Looks like he's been doing a bit of practicing alright, at the lights

Good start

its not just 4wd give credit to Bengie - he shows good technique on the launch..

also he has the right tyres and suspension.

he would have hit 30 very quickly.... as he says the sick turbo didnt help higher up...

Fantastic Vids

Whats funny is the 18 seconds calculated earlier (dunno if correct?) to 100 would be where im reaching just over 60 in mine

You're taking this a bit seriously aren't you? There ARE a lot of posts about Fabia vRS road performance! (In fact, there's such a thread going on at this very moment!)

If somebody throws money and effort at any car it could be fast(er). Whether that's a 2CV or a Porsche 911.

I'm sure there are even some fast Fabias too! :P

Good work lads! It looked like great fun

-and you stuck it to 'em good and proper!:)

I can take a 2CV /end footnote> :D

As a matter of interest, how long was the run(/race)way?

long enough, a mile maybe

waiting for barrie still ;)

waiting for barrie still ;)

When I heard the laugh at the 1st handbrake turn, all I could think of was Muttley mutt_front.gif

Those handbrake turns are like something from The Professionals! :) I was expecting the shorter wheelbased Fabia to do a big one when he blasted up, and then did a U-turn....

-that white estate looks good. I'm now having withdrawal symtpons, as the Octavia is my first non-estate car :(
