Door Handle Change Issues

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

Today I've been changing my handles from the black plastic to painted silver ones off of a reflect silver Golf Mk4. Down one side the handles fit perfectly flush whereas on the other side they don't sit flush. Any ideas what could be wrong or just maybe the handles have been abused before?

Thanks in advance

Hmm can't be cable adjustment as that should be slack anyhow. Have you tried popping them out and refitting? Also when removing do you lock the handle in the outer position and let the spring pull it in as you wind in the torx screw?

I tried popping them out and back in but just left the same fitment, the backdoor wouldn't lock out and had to be held however I think I held the handle in while re tightening on both anyway. The handles will sit flush if pushed against the car however sick out again as soon as you let go.

All I can think of is you haven't got the handle located behind the sprung lever fully.

The two locating pins on the handle must sit in the black lever correctly, it's that lever that pulls the handle back in.

You haven't got the cable far enough up the handle

Can't be this I imagine, we had the cable tighter and they electric unlock wouldn't work without pushing the door in first, we had to go and make them all looser

Yeah the cable doesn't pull the handle in. If you pull the cable to far up the handle it won't let the lever come back all the way and that's when your deadlocks jam on.
