Grinding scraping noise from Yeti front wheel at low speeds

Featured Replies

This happened before, some time ago, and went away almost as quickly as it came, but this time it hasn't - so far.

First noticed a couple of days ago - a grinding or scraping sort of noise coming from one of the front wheels.  Difficult to tell which (can't be both, surely) but it's only audible at very low speeds.  At low speeds it's VERY audible, though, and sounds horrible.

I'm guessing that a small stone must have found its way inside something (my knowledge of cars is very limited!) and since this did happen once before I'm hoping that's what it is, and that it will find its way out again.

I'd appreciate some help on this from anyone with better knowledge than mine (not difficult!).  Is it safe to drive?  Will any damage be caused?  Will it cure itself again?  Thanks!

Worth trying, reverse and apply the brakes once or twice-if something has got in between disc and pad that may dislodge it.

A stone caught in the brakes can make horrendous noises. I had several caught in my rear brakes after some impromptu off roading. As I drove through town people where stopping and staring at me.

Best get the wheel off and have a looksy, just in case it's having a detrimental effect on your braking, or is causing damage.  A stitch in time and all that.

Yes, gravel trapped, it cut a small groove in my disc on one car,

Take the wheel out if reversing doesn't shift it.

Thanks, guys.

Just as a follow-up to this, in case it's of any use to anyone else with a similar problem, the problem was indeed a small stone.  The AA sorted it out a few days ago and knew immediately what the problem was - great service from them too.

He said it's perfectly OK to drive with the stone still there, despite the noise.  No damage will be caused - the stone just gets ground down.  His words, not mine!
