Hi y'All

I am not a great mathematician and finding the handbook quite obscure, can any kind person give me an idea how much luggage, i.e. weight can legally and safely be carried in my 1.2 TSI 2015 Roomster?

That is with driver and single passenger total weight about 125KG,, full tank etc. and A/C if that makes any difference.

Also considering taking out the rear seats temporarily, so how much do they weigh?

Taking them out would make a big difference as I have a large number of books to transport a long distance.

I am guessing the answer would be about the same as the capacity of a Praktic, but I don't know if the Praktic comes with that engine or the same axles...

Any contributions to my conundrum ( it is to me!) gratefully welcomed.

Thank You!

Is there not a sticker on the car showing the Minimum Kerb Weight at something like 1,146 kg,

and the Maximum Gross Weight as 1,676 kg.

That gives about 530kg as your allowable load.

'Minimum Kerb Weight might be with a 60 kg driver and a 2/3rds full tank'.

Its all a bit odd from one manufacturer to another, even with Skoda, to VW, or Audi.

If you want to know whats what load the car up and then go to the local Public Weigh Bridge.

PS

I weigh 115 kg presently, and often have a passenger or 3 around the same weight.

All on the way to Slimming World then KFC on the way home.

The Max Gross weight is on the plate 1676 kg as you say, but not the minimum kerb weight,     that must be whats referred to in the handbook as "Operating weight"?

That gives two figures 1221 kg and 1237 kg (for vehicles of category N1)  Baffling because N1 is carriage of goods (EU) but the Praktik and the Roomster have thetwo sets of figures but different figures.

Praktik has  1191 kg and 1201 kg for 14" and 15" rims .

How does a Roomster get to be Category N1 ???

Which model Roomster do you drive?

Are you serious about yourself and passengers?

Weight I mean...I bet you have deep fried Mars bars for afters.

 ;-)

Sorry about that,no offence meant but I inadvertently posted the first message twice and the system would not let me delete it without putting more words in the box.

I don't drive a Roomster but i am looking for a cheap Auto to strip out and line and use as a van for transporting bikes.

The Roomster is a Passenger Vehicle and the Praktik a Light Commercial Car Derived and not really comparing apples and pears.

You can take seats out a Roomster and use it as or like a commercial, but putting seats for passengers in a Praktik does not a passenger vehicle make it.

Serious about being 115kg?  Yes. And thats after losing weight.

The Kerb Weight given might be for a 60 kg driver, but then is that an 'average' weight of drivers, i doubt it.

The given weights are Kerb / Unleaden Weights and Revenue weights but maybe go stick an empty car on a weigh bridge because they are often fiction.

A basic model with no options fitted, (so often no Spare wheel and jack if they are options, so another 20kg lighter than sits actually on the road.)

which is what the Manufacturers put in for EU Testing.

Unfortunately its the fiction the law goes by....I don't need to get pulled for overloading my car and its a long way to go.

In fact all the way to Skocia, about 350 miles.

That's a long way for an infirm old man like me and I'd hate to get trouble on the way

However, if what you say is true about you and three mates totalling <> 500kg safely carried I should be fine as the two of us equals one of you and its about 300 kg of books to carry.

We do have a spare wheel, but I'll need to take out the rear seats in any case, so should have a comfortable margin.

Also considering taking out the rear seats temporarily, so how much do they weigh?

Using bathroom scales:

Outer rear seat 16kg

Centre rear seat 11kg

I make that a total of 43kg

Hope that helps
