RaceChips Response Controller - Any Good?

Featured Replies

I have a RaceChips Ultimate on my 3T tdi Superb and although I like the performance of it, the throttle sensitivity is not as good I think is should be.  In the MkIII forums there is a VCDS option in 'Engine 1' to change from Skoda to Audi to improve the throttle response but unfortunately this is not for the MKII...hence I am heading down the Response Controller path.

My question is.... has anyone added a RaceChips Response Controller or similar to their ride?

Appreciate any advice or testimonials on their benefits??

Doing some research on them, they're just elaborate tuning boxes. Your money would be far better spent on an actual remap. These things are screwing around with sensor readings to the ECU and storing up problems down the line.

There are no benefits compared to a proper remap from a reputable tuner.

There is however a box you can get to plug between the throttle pedal sensor and the engine that sharpens up the throttle response without touching the engine software. It just lies about where you've put the pedal to give the engine a more immediate throttle response. It's one tuning box I'd consider, but it's pretty the same as mashing the pedal down when you want a response from the car except you can drive naturally aspirated cars with a throttle cable safely afterwards :P...

Thanks chimaera and psycholist,

I've since made enquiry about an APR remap...it's double the price of the Ultimate chip I have but they say they all but eliminate the sluggish take off and this is something I am keen to occur.

I'll keep investigating before I part with some more 'hard earned'.... I have a Flat Bottom MFSW with paddle shifters coming so I fit this before I do anything else.

DTUK :)

From the quick look I gave yesterday, the Racechips Ultimate box is €479. That would easily cover a remap from a good tuner, in this part of the world at least.

Mine was remapped and rolling road tested for about €300 if I remember correctly.

Having foolishly  bought two of these type of tuning boxes for  my 14 superb and another for  my 16 Mondeo at considerable expense, I feel qualified to say they are rubbish  , don't waste your money as I have, get it remapped by someone who knows their stuff. I monitored performance and economy from tank to tank and found the box maker's claims to be cobblers, I checked the same for the remap and found their claims to be fairly accurate

If you want to eliminate a sluggish take off just press the go pedal harder  :D

Got quoted $1499 for an APR remap....Ultimate was $699....we really pay a premium for remapping in Oz....

I am about to head off and talk to another tuner... not holding my breath

I can only assume the 2015 Superb throttle response was modified compared to my MY11 Superb as this had no lag (apparently the lag is coded in to reduce emissions)

Not all tuning boxes are equal, Dragon digital used to make very good ones, DTUK (for me) whilst producing ‘the goods’ also drank the fuel (at a steady 70 MPH on CC over 250+ miles)

BillyJim has the RaceChips box fitted to his S3 280 and he loves it, the pedalbox removes the lag completely (which will still be present after a remap)

Check to see if Shark Performance have a dealer near you (you may even be able to use their STS system to upload the remap yourself)

I sent Shark Performance an email last week asking if they have a local dealer... No response.  The search continues...

If I was a remapper.....

Right now id get a 1.6td and a 140ps 2ltr being called in for emissions resolve, dyno them 1st. and again after Skoda have done the work, then map and dyno a 3rd time to give comparative figures

I've got a dtuk pedal box and highly recommend one as it makes pedal more response, it eliminates that few mm of dead pedal travel. It make the car feel faster as the car responds immediately and clearly noticeable when I switch off the pedal box.
