Noisy Throttle Pedal

Featured Replies

Does anyone else here have a noisy throttle pedal? Mine's creaking like an arthritic knee....

No.

You could give the hinge a quick spray of grease.

Mine neither, a good dose of silicone spray should do the trick.

Yes mine creaks slightly and will be lubricating it tomorrow!

Be careful where you spray that potentially deadly stuff ......if it get on the pedal surface it will transfer via your shoe to the brake pedal.

Add some moisture and it can be a big fright.

A panel shop thought they would 'detail' our bus by liberally spraying Armorall about.

It U/S'd the bus until a v heavy cleanup had been done.

If spraying be careful as there are electronics in the base of it.

Every 6 months or so, the throttle pedal starts to squeak and I cure it with a light spray of silicon.

Which bit do you spray? The hinge on the floor is easy enough to get to, but listening to mine this morning, the noise sounds as though it's coming from further up the pedal, around the back where it presses against the other moving part. That is much more tricky to get at.

I just spray the hinge area

Mine might be but I can't hear it over my creaking knee. :giggle:

One of the best bits of garage kit is a stethoscope for nailing the exact location of a noise and potentially failing bearing, turbo air leak, squeek etc.

Quick squirt of WD 40 at the base cured my clicky pedal years ago.

Had the same issue with Hetties pedal, silicon did not really work so I fixed it permanently by slipping a small piece of packing (in this case a window space wedge) under the pedals base plate. Yes I know that it's a bodge but it's been a fix for over a year now and it's simple, more importantly with a trim its also invisible too.

I've used furnature wax in a aerosol BUT DON'T get it on the pedal {s} put some covering over them before you spray, being wax it will not react with plastic like WD40 never use WD40 on plastic it will ruin it. at least wax will not harm electrical wires I used it on squeaking fan generator belts years ago which made a horrible squeaking sound

As said silicone spray makes all sorts slippery and dangerous, if

you must use it, make a cardboard mask for carpet and footpedals

as Ryeman says it could cause a foot to slip off a pedal with

disasterous results

Agreed, WD40 smells and will not be good for the plastic bits in the long run, Silicone will work and will be OK if you use an aerosol with a tube on it to direct the spray to the required area without getting any on the pedal surface.
