Why is my car stuck at 1000 rpm even when in neutral and stationary?

Featured Replies

I have a 1.6 TDI fabia and my revs are constantly a 1000rpm  even when stationary and in neutral. It never goes to 0. I just wondered if this was normal or whether anything is wrong and I need to sort it?

I made a car review and Im not sure whether this video will be able to help but I'd appreciate it if you guys could give it a watch and subscribe to me if you enjoyed it

All the time? Mine does this when the car is doing a DPF regeneration. And some times in winter when there is more drain on the battery.

Could be a DPF regeneration but everytime I look at it, it is stuck at 1000

I get the same. Normal is 800rpm stationary or 900rpm moving, I think the 900rpm is to give more power to the power steering.

On shorter runs the DPF regen can take more than one journey but overall should not be more than about 30 mins.

If permanent a fault somewhere, maybe connected to exhaust system. I would get it checked by a good independent VW group specialist ASAP. The last thing you want is to have to replace the DPF prematurely.

Only happens when my dpf is mid regen, Take it for a motorway run 20 mins or so and see if it goes back to normal?

I use vag dpf app to keep an eye on soot loading makes it easier to manage

Is the engine fan running aswell and still running when the engines off?

It does seem to go down to about 800rpm now when stationary I noticed the other day, just at 1000rpm when car first starts up

Must have been trying to regen make sure you give a long run down a dual carriageway/motorway every once in a while, A blocked dpf is an expensive fix
