amundsen sat nav update

Featured Replies

Ive just bought my second yeti 2016 and i upgraded the sat nav from the bolero to the amundsen. When I go onto the Skoda update portal and input my VIN number the system informs me that I still have the bolero fitted. where can I download new software for my amundsen and can any one tell me if the skoda portal is ever updated to show that I no longer have the factory fitted sat nav but now have the amundsen fitted instead.

The update portal will only show what infotainment system the car was built with.

What model Amundsen do you have?

I'm not sure of model numbers ect but because the car was registered on 1st oct 16 I assume its the latest model. All i can say at present is it has 2 sd card slots one of which is used for the nav maps

I no longer have the factory fitted sat nav but now have the amundsen fitted instead.

That is confusing, did the car come from from the factory with the Amundsen or has it been changed since?

So it had a Sat-Nav but now has an Amundsen!!!

The dealer fitted the amundsen sat nav it was not factory fitted

I suspect that you will not be able to up-date via the Skoda portal because your car is not recorded as having that unit fitted on production. Whether the dealer can get it changed might be worth asking.

In that case you need to contact the dealer to get it registered to your VIN.

You will not be able to get any updates from the Skoda Update Portal until that happens.

Myself I'd not be holding my breath it will be successful though.

ok thanks a lot for your help. I will get onto the dealer and see what happens

if the dealer can't resolve the issue they could always give you the vin from another vehicle for you to download and try. The sd cards are not locked to individual cars and the data downloaded isn't encrypted to work on a particular vehicle.

I am surprised the dealer didn't seemingly understand the problem that would arise in the changeover.

The dealer is going to be a party to the problem is my attitude FWIW.

The sd cards are not locked to individual cars and the data downloaded isn't encrypted to work on a particular vehicle.

That's what my first thought was but could the download be locked to the VIN or the Amundsen unit that would be accessible to Skoda from the VIN?

I thought that the Map SD card was registered to you HU, by the dealer when its first installed. The Skoda update site will update maps, Bluetooth and radio stations icons etc., but not the HU firmware. The firmware, as far as I know, has to be updated by the dealer.

The unit number is registered to the VIN number, seemingly at build time, and the SD card will not update without the correct VIN number.

As far as I'm aware you need the vin of a car with a nav unit to access the update portal. The info it downloads is generic and only specific to whatever platform is installed.

It shouldn't lock the card to one nav unit though. We've chopped and changed a few for various reasons and they've always worked fine even after updates.

Mine came without the SD card, when the salesman delivered it to me the next day and showed me how the Sat-Nav worked it was put in and worked straight away.

I still think that when you enter your VIN and get the download of updated maps it is registered to the HU but any SD card bought from an authorised Skoda source at great expense will be free of encryption for any suitable head unit.

That's the way TomTom does it, any map download I do for my other TomTom units will only work with that one.
