New Owner With A Few Questions.

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

New here, having recently bough a Skoda Fabia III 1.0 SE L in Titan Blue Metallic (I think that's the colour).

This wee car was bought for my son's 18th birthday and it is a nice little car and my son loves it.

The advert for this car has now gone, but I'm sure it was supposed to have amongst other things, Cruise Control, but I cannot seem to find out how to activate it.

It does have "Speed Limiter", which I have tried out but that is something totally different and I have to wonder if the seller got mixed up.

Is there anything similar to FordEtis (when it used to work), where you can check the original build details of your Skoda?

This Fabia is now 4 years old and I want to make sure everything is up to day regards head unit software maps etc and also need to get some genuine Skoda accessories, such as mats, nets etc.

The car came with the Amundsen SatNav (see photo) and not sure which version it is as it DOES NOT have the in glovebox SD card unit and I cannot find any other SD card slot to use for updates.

Does this model use the USB instead?

The display seems a bit bland on this head unit and I have to wonder if there's any system updates that inject a bit of colour and extra features into the head unit?

Also, I tried to activate the Skoda Connect Online Services and it will not complete setup despite receiving the code from Skoda.

When I open the MySkoda app, the car is shown, with "Activation Required" underneath it, but tapping "Activate", takes me to a white screen of eternity. :(

Another thing is the voice control does not work. It says on screen that I need an activation key. Is there a way to get this activation key without having to visit a dealer?

So many questions and I will probably have some more in the coming days.

I look forward to any replies or advice.

I have now managed to activate the Skoda Connect Services, but on receiving a confirmation email, it states the service expired in September 2022, so I guess the original owner had an initial years worth and never continued with it. How can I get this again?

You should be able to renew the Skoda connect on z yearly basis, have you got the Skoda App on you phone linked to the car?

Yes speed limiter is different and j think people do get them mixed up. We have the limiter on our Fabia. I have Karoq with Cruise and Limiter, I now use limiter more than cruise; unlike cruise it says active if you brake do you can’t inadvertently press the throttle and exceed the limit set, you remain in control - rather than driving with the right foot resting, as you enter new limit comes the limiter can bd quickly set to the new limit. If you get the sat nav working with up to date maps if should display the speed limit for the current road.

Voice control might require Skoda connect subscription if does in my Karoq - I don’t use it though as I’ve found it impossible to say a command or phrase it understands- this is when stationary trying to do simple things like make phone call - have to look at the screen to see what it has understood of replied with- suspect it’s impossible when driving. I wax hoping it would be like my old Garmin Voice control which had a list of easy to say commands that where shown on the screen as prompts.

You have SD card slot inside the glovebox, located vertically on the side of the driver.

Thanks for that pab567. I'll have a look later.

From reading a few posts on here, your name seems to come up a lot when SatNavs/Infotainment systems are mentioned, so thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. It's much appreciated.

Would you happen to if there are any updated firmware and maps for my son's infotainment system unit and where I can download them from?

Not sure of the name of his current system, but have attached photos of software version screens, in case they are of any help deciphering which system he has:

Thanks once again.

If you are still interested in checking what all was included in the initial build at the factory, ask your local Skoda Parts Department for a print out of "CAR DATA" for that car, you only need to give them the reg number to get this.

Alternatively, you can pay a 3rd party a nominal fee, maybe £5 for this to get emailed to you, CCP otherwise called Coverdale Car Parts can or used to provide this service for £5.

coverdalecarparts.co.uk typically "they" respond quicker to direct contact via their facebook page.

Thanks for that.

Unfortunately, I'm around 50 miles from my local dealer, so not that easy to pop in. I wonder if they could do this and email it?

Might give them a call tomorrow. They can only say no I guess.

Another option is on the Skoda website they have an online Chat with 'Laura' feature who can supply a vehicle build spec using the full the VIN.

Another option is to share VIN of your car in PM and I will send such document to you free of charge :)

Maps you can find at SKODA UPDATE PORTAL

Firmware link sent in PM
