Whether you feel you have anything to gain by contacting the DVLA and letting them know I don't know.

Youd have better luck going down to the local park and telling the ducks on the pond, theyre more likely to take any notice than the DVLA :D

  • You'll probably find it's a UK car.  They are built in the Czech republic and, from memory the App is pretty useless at identifying 'local' trim levels and often shows the UK SE-L trim as Style.

  • You can do it through live chat on the website - I did this when I purchased ours second hand as I wanted to know what the full spec was and what had been added as 'extras' when purchased by the origi

Just out of interest did the refund include the value of the trade in and if so was that what they gave you or what they sold it for?

I still reckon they have a responsibility to put things right and find you a replacement...

Are you trying to make the OP feel worse that he already does?

The garage will have refunded the monies the OP paid them, as they are legally obliged to do. As part of the deal, the OP sold his car to them. At that point the car became theirs. It's nobody's business but theirs what they do with their car.

If there was enough profit in the Kodiaq, you do realise that they may well have sold the OP's car for LESS than they bought it from him - selling at auction should be the lowest price a car will sell for. If they did, as you suggest, make money on it then that's just rubbing salt in to the wound because that's how the OP should have sold his car.

The situation is now resolved - no point in digging up the past, time to move on.

Where did I suggest they sold the old car for more?  Nowhere!

I was just confirming whether the OP got the full value of their refund ..  as some dealers might have accidentally 'forgotten' the trade in value of the old car.

Just to let others know, the Non-uk Kodiaq is still floating around dealers / british car auctions.  I purchased a Kodiaq (Reg ends RNO) in January 2023 from a large 2nd hand car dealership in Wolverhampton, which I believe to be the one being discussed in December as the VIN code was similar and it had an Austrailian Sat Nav.  After some investigation, I got the same information from Skoda and my local dealership as the original poster which allowed me to get a full refund.  This was a hassle though as my original car had already been sold by the large 2nd hand car dealership.  I had even had the vehicle history checked prior to buying with a large Motoring Assistance group but the search didn't pick up it was imported.

A couple of things sparked my concern:-

  1. SAT NAV couldn't find some Large UK cities,
  2. Map pack was Rest of World.
  3. VIN number was near identical to report posted in this thread.
  4. Skoda UK stated that the car was first registered in the UK in November 2020 but it was built in June 2019 for the Austrailian market.
  5. First UK service was recorded as January 2022.
  6. Skoda dealer identified the trim as "Style" which is not a current UK trim level.

The large group car dealer stated that BCA had no declared the import status to the dealer and they are now taking it up with the DVLA.

I managed to source a replacement Karoq Sportline  from my local Skoda Dealership but could have done without the hassle due to a serious family illness.

As the original poster stated the Kodiaq was a fine vehicle and a lovely trim level but with Skoda themselves highlighting issues it became too much of a risk to take on when viewed with other events.

So the lesson I learnt here was to have a good check of the infotainment system / features for any oddities compared to UK spec.

That alone should have been enough to raise concerns.

Completely different manufacturer, but I found something really strange with nearly new cars that Arnold Clark are currently selling and strongly suspect the same is happening.

Motorpoint used to be guilty of this when they first started ( not sure if they still are ) but they'd sell cars that were imported via the channel Islands, Isle of Man or even Malta ! It took a keen eye to see the subtle differences in trim / standard options to see something wasn't quite right. They dd admit to it's origins but only when pushed.

Who was that? Needs to be named and shamed. Many of these types of firms tell you a history check is an absolute must but the quality of information they provide is about as much use as a fart in a space suit. I'm lead to believe there's a get-out clause in the small print which says they don't guarantee the information !  In otherwords you may as well employ a fortune teller at half the price. 🤣

Hi I am really sorry to hear this, I did wonder what they would do with the car we rejected  and clearly they have just offloaded it. It was a massive hassle for us to sort so I feel your pain.

I still don't understand how it is legal to have a car in the UK that is not specified as an Import when it was so clearly built for a different market.

I am glad you got your money back and have a sorted a different "UK" model. We ended up with a well spec'd Edition and have come to terms with not having all the bells and whistles!

I would also encourage people to check the sat nav of anything they look at and avoid anything called a "style" trim

Unless I've missed it, it hasn't been determined how an Australian spec Kodiaq ended up in the UK.

Let's hope it wasn't Skoda UK themselves, especially now they know it's here and not legal for use on UK roads.

I might have missed it... but I don't recall that being the case?

Looks like the Kodiaq has been taxed again and has another owner. I hope they have been made aware of the vehicles history and status.

I suspect the biggest issue is it is not registered as an import and it is out of Skoda warranty now. So if the Skoda dealers had been able to do anything to fix the issue, it would have been at the owners expense and a pretty penny to do so.

my concern in the end was that if there had been any other non-uk spec components in the vehicle, in the event of a breakdown or accident it may have invalidated any car insurance or been difficult to source spares. The undeclared import status on the DVLA records when reviewed with the Skoda records may have caused significant on going issues.

There seems to be a gap in the records on how it got to the uk.  It doesn’t seem to have any traceability or Skoda are withholding the information due to data protection.

As for the motoring body who did the vehicle check, I would rather not say at the moment as I have a claim in against their vehicle check guarantee (though I have been waiting since January for them to complete their investigation and respond).

The second point only actually applies if the last registered keeper was (or at least appears to be) a private individual.

If as stated above the car is a 'Style' model, questions must have been raised when whoever bought it tried to insure i.

Style trim wouldn't be registered on any UK insurer's database.

Surely it was on the V5 as an SEL? Insurance databases take their information from DVLA systems, therefore would have been registered and insured as an SEL, not withstanding what it *may* be.

It's a car now out of warranty so I'd guess will be subject to the same service and maintenance regime as any other Kodiaq sans warranty.

As I read it, Skoda UK are unable or unwilling to provide a certificate of conformity?
