Early Model / Late Model ?

Featured Replies

Ok, as the title suggest, when (month / year) was the facelft that defines which cars are early and which are late?

Its to do with the gear ratio's from the other thread!!

Ta!

:)

The 'facelift' if you could actually call it that (more of a slight ar5e lift with slightly revised lights) on the vRS was for the 2005 model year, but there are various revisions that come with each model year and every so often when the factory feels like it. The non vRS models got a more thorough make over really. Searches will reveal all.

05/2004 was the facelift.

Notable differances are -

One touch indicators

Revised rear lights

Rear seatbelt position

I'm sure there are a few more too.

Someone mentioned that early models had the different gear ratios to the later models.

So, I'm guessing that 53/04/54 were early and 05/55 are late and somewhere in the middle the ratio's of 5th / 6th gear were changed.

Mines a March 04 and I've got one touch Indicators

My new 06 has a slightly different dash now, its the same shape but the texture is different close to the windcreen, I don't know if 05s have this but my friends 04 definitely doesn't :)

Also the front grill was slightly revised after the 04 aswell

The "facelift" refers to cosmetic changes which occurred for model year 05 i.e. autumn '04 onwards. This had nothing to do with the gearbox, which was changed in spring '04. Roughly speaking, the old, long-legged gearbox was '53 reg, and the current box took over from '04 reg onwards.

There have also been a number of incremental changes which crept in with no fanfare: one-touch indicators; revised ABS controller; the purple brake light switch etc. Some models were affected by a problem with the fuel pump bolts (not all because there were two manufacturers whose fuel pumps were in use at the time - only one of them had the bolts problem so not all cars from a given batch were affected).

So it isn't simply a case of saying pre-facelift and post-facelift. Some things, like cruise control as standard, were changed before the cars ever hit these shores.

As I'm also in the market for a VRS..does anyone know what the later models with the new gearbox are doing 'RPM' wise @ 80mph in 6th??....as ive driven a 53 plate which was doing just over 2000and-a-bit and as i'll be spending a fair amount of time on the motorway this seemed perfect:) ......i know what your thinking - why dont i just get a 53plate!? - but i would like the 1touch indicators!...a little trivial maybe but like anything car related once you've had a car with a gadget/option etc (i.e Ibiza TDi Sport) its something you look for in your next car!

Cheers

Chris:)

The spreadsheet here should tell you what you need to know.

ahh splendid!..nice one fella:thumbup: ...so basically a 53 plate is doing 2100rpm @ 80 in 6th where the 04 plate > is doing 2400rpm

im sure this doesnt affect the MPG to much!?...2-4mpg possibly?...but hey it'll be even more driveable!

cheers
