Heated Rear window reliability

Featured Replies

I have a new (to me) 15 month old Octy3 estate.

One of the central traces on my HRW has failed and I'm wondering whether to claim under warranty.

To be honest one trace missing is no big deal but if it indicates than my window has a manufacturing problem and other traces might fail when out of warranty then maybe I should take it back to the dealer.

Anyone had a similar experience?

Would they replace or try and repair under warranty or would it be excluded under "fair wear and tear" ?

TIA

Bob

Not in a Mk3, but I had the rear screen replaced in my Mk2 estate as the top element had failed. I think this was during the final Year of Warranty. At first the dealership tried to pin it down to me having cleaned the inside window and damaged an element, but I was insistent I had done no such thing and they relented and replaced under warranty. Worth a try, I'd say.

I dont see why you shouldnt claim on the warrenty either now or next year before the 3 year warrenty is up.

The sooner the better at least to discuss it with the dealer & have it logged onto your vehicle history even if they don't replace it immediately.

Remember that its easier to prove the element is not working in the winter when its cold & frosty than in the summer.

Is it damaged??

The rupture in the trace is visible as a brown stain about 40% along and can be seen once you are looking for it.

Is that what you meant by damage?

Had mine replaced under warranty. They just checked for damage to the glass. There were no scratches on the screen the element had just blown out.

Thanks All,

It is a little surprising to me that in a relatively small community of Octy driving Briskoda members, who have read this thread in less than 12 hours, we have three cars with HRW problems.

My mk2 had a couple of failed elements too.  Think they were more in the middle area rather than top or bottom of the glass.  Mk1 was still going strong when I part ex'd it,

It's not uncommon to get this issue but usually on older cars, had a few breaks in my last rear car window element, that was a Mondeo though but it is just one of these things that will fail in what is probably only a small number of the cars sold, worth mentioning it to your dealer as a warranty claim given how new your car is though.

Checking my car this morning, I've got a feeling the top three elements of my hatch aren't working!! Can anyone confirm whether the three elements that run through the third brake light are working elements? I assume they should!

I believe they're actually radio antenna.

Thank you!

Mine's got one missing right in the middle,  no visible break though and to be honest I wasn't planning to do anything about it. But it is in warranty so perhaps I should.
