You just never know - I've seen daft things like 10yr old Escorts and Fiestas round here with dateless plates on them. I see a mid-90s Rover 600 with 'N 74' on it and what must be at least a 15yr old Polo with 'VRY 9'.

Whether they've owned them since they were actually properly licensed to cars I don't know, they all seem to be old codgers, so the theory stands!! They bought a moped in 1950 with one of those on it, and have kept it ever since

I have no objection to private plates, infact I have two on both my cars *x* 666 and *bz 6666, but the thing that puts me off plates like these are they are vehicle specific, to be honest whos going to keep their VRS forever? and its going to mean nothing on any other car, I just cant understand why people spend a fortune and then loose a fortune when they sell the car, theres a guy near me who now drives a focus with the reg H1 5AXO, Hmmm, wonder what he used to drive??? Looks great on his focus...

I would agree with the ex-Saxo drive example; I'm sure some distinguised gentleman would buy it from him on Saxoworld, or whatever their internet forum is

I picked all the 6s because originally 6666 was passed onto me by my father, then I acquirred a mobile number 0**99933666 and *X*666 came up in an auction recently and I couldn't resist! Suppose I should change my username Satan LOL!!

Oh and alot of people often comment on the 666 on my other car, they think it suits the car, being possessed and all that

Anglesey's the place for hand me down registrations. I know of at least 3 single digit EY plates (i.e. EY7) that have been in a family since about 1910. Most of these incredibly valuable plates are currently attached to old farm pickups and Datsun (not even Nissan!) Sunnys and the like. Also loads of very old CC plates (the old Caernarfon registration).

I think you need the V5 document, and a valid MOT certificate in order to transfer a registration mark. You can only transfer from car to car, motorcycle to motorcycle, and motorcycle to car, but not from car to motorcycle (easier to get an MOT on an old bike than on an old car).
