Whistling Exhaust

Featured Replies

Went to have a look at an Octavia vrs estate today, and all seems great - just that the exhaust seems to be making what I can only describe as a 'whistling' noise from the rear tailpipe. It sounds a bit like a water tap that's been turned on. Makes the noise at idle and through the rev range, but not blowing as far as I can tell. Any thoughts on what it might be? Should I be overly concerned? The rest of the car is pretty much fine so I'm mostly happy...

Non standard pipes will make the turbo whistle more apparent as they tend to breath more freely hence allow more sound through.

I had a whistling exhaust once , it was the insulation coming adrift and blocking the exhaust.

Performance dropped when at higher revs and the whistling got louder but it wasn't very noticeable in the car ,it was the looks from the pedestrians which finally gave me a clue.
