VRS 230 Remap

Featured Replies

Is the VRS 230 remap is done 'on board' or does the chip have to be removed?

  • Took the plunge and booked in with Shark today, taking up their offer of 25% off all remaps making it £375.   I've used Shark before and trust them, so looking forward to Sat 13th.

  • £34.74 from here,http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381881891217?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT, takes 10 minutes to install.

Thanks

In my limited experience of a 230 (salesman-free test drive on clear straight quiet roads!) the car really doesn't need more power. There's more than enough potential for losing your licence already under your right foot!!

Nah, definitely needs more. Had a rather "spirited" drive home through some empty country lanes the other night in my 230, and although it's quick, flat out it just doesn't FEEL fast, or at least not compared to what I've driven before.

It's a nice flexible engine, but you definitely feel it needs more when pushing it, especially noticeable in a straight line.

It feels really nicely balanced and planted at the moment (especially with the Eibachs fitted) so I'm concerned that the map might shift that balance out a bit. Only one way to find out ...

What mileage you're on?

Mine is getting faster and faster, it wasn't this sharp in the beginning.

About 9000

Should be on its top already.

I'm a new owner of a 66 plate 230, which has done about 9000 miles. Out of interest, what's the typical cost and likely improvement of a remap? I appreciate these things come in stages, just indicative.

FWIW, more than happy with the performance as it is, I absolutely love the car, but you never know in the future :-)

I've got a 16 plate registered August with about the same mileage. I picked it up at the end of March, like you I absolutely love it.

Text from the guy that's doing my remap: "Gains are 40bhp and 80nm with stage 1 stock hardware, all within 100% safe tolerances" - he also said 14 day money back guarantee, no questions asked and he will put the original file back pre service and rewrite it again after, if I want.

Cost quoted for this is £200.

Question Please,

Is your stage 1 remap a Gerenic Map ( one Map fits all ) or is it a Map designed just for your car, I don't think you can get a Stage 1 Gerenic map for a 230. I think it will be a Stage 1 Map for a 220 Bhp Vrs. So you will only get an increase of 30bhp as you already have 10 bhp more than the 220.

Also the 230 gets slightly more Tourque than a 220 and I understand the 230 delivers it differently so you might not get the extra 80nm

I might be completely wrong but no harm in asking, can I ask who is doing the map please as I'm thinking of getting my 230 done

Cheers

AG

Hi AG,

I just sent your message to the guy who's doing my remap tonight and he's confirmed the following:

The remap is designed specifically for my car and the figures quoted of 40bhp and 80nm are correct.

The guy works as a dealer for Viezu.

I hope you don't mind, I've copied my signature from yours. Clearly I still have stuff to get coded on mine! :D

How do you get all those things from your signature !? It really closes windows (probably sunroof as well) on rain? Even when car is parked and locked !?

I think the only place that claims to have a map for a 230 at the moment is Revo.

I'd be very careful about who you use for the map - even possibly ask for graphs etc as some maps are renowned for having huge torque spikes.

All being well I'm hoping to get mine mapped in June / July - it'll be a fair bit more expensive than £200 but I know that extensive R&D will have gone into it, so I'll be going with either Shark or Revo. I had considered Oscarli but I want a switchable map.

Hi Nidza

You need to find somebody with VCDS who can then diagnose and code different things that are currently switched off. There is a list of owners and locations on the forum.

I'm tempted by the Revo and as I've had it on previous cars but £600 is too much so I'll wait for it to drop.

Don't mind at all Tony. Just remember It's my Copywrite so you'll need to pay me Royalties

£1 a year should do it.

      All alterations carried out by using a VCDS.

The one I like most is when you wash the screen the lights don't get washed untill you pull and hold the wiper stalk for more than 2 seconds.

No problem at all. Please send me your bank account number, sort code and PIN and i'll pay it immediately!  Just posted pics with front and rear tints and black badges.

Ok, so question time ... Who do I go with for my remap?

1.) Revo - Midland VW (20 mins away) - 300bhp £600

2.) Shark Performance - (1 1/2 hrs away) - 285bhp £500

3.) Oscarli - (30 mins away) - up to 300bhp £significantly less than 1 & 2

I'm thinking Oscarli at the moment, purely because it's probably the same as the Revo map thanks to Richard Washbrook, just a LOT cheaper, and Richard really knows his stuff ... I just need to get a balance of a good map and good customer service incase it needs returning to standard quickly (yes, I'm aware of TD1 so this may not be relevant).

Afaik Oscarli don't offer a switchable map, but I've not needed it to be switchable before ... And adding this to either option 1 or 2 adds £120-180.

What would have you needing to have it returned to standard quickly,

if you were making a Warranty Claim and you are asked if the car has none factory approved software / engine management then you have or had so just do not make warranty claims on the engine.

No point trying to hide it is there?
