Noise turning left

Featured Replies

Anyone else get a noise when turning left it's not very loud and almost sounds like a car with a power steering pump. It happens when driving and as soon as you touch the wheel to turn left you can hear it when coasting and it is slightly louder under power. Car is a 2015 tdi vrs with 16k miles but noticed this noise when i got it with 13k miles car has 19"extremes on. Like i say not that loud considering the road noise from the wheels drowns it out.

Thanks Mike

My 230 Vrs makes a noise whilts turning right. It does it when the steering wheel is a certain point, sounds like something is catching/rubbing against something. The O/S/F CV joint has been changed but the noise is still there. Just to add Skoda insisted the car had a 4 wheel laser alignment check, It was done and all 4 wheels where out. Think they were claiming Pot hole damage but are now doing the work under warranty

Good luck in you quest, keep us informed of any work carried out please

Is it the indicator?

;)

:D:D no not indicators its a very faint whine like a power steering pump noise which is what i put it down too untill i found out these have electronic assist. Not too fussed at the moment still under warranty untill January just thought it may be one of those things these cars do. If you could find a really nice road surface you would hear it more but it gets drowned out by all the road noise and bumps.

Hey mike.

Ive started to experience a similar problem with my 15 VRS. If I'm turning left at a slow speed, about 15-20kph and not at lock, I get a very slight grinding/pump like noise. It stops as I ease off the turn but immediately returns if I reapply it.

Did you figure out what caused your issue ? I have my car booked in for service and I'm hoping to have it looked at under warranty.

No mines still does it I am going to get it checked at the service like you its hard to hear it unless the road is smooth as the road noise drowns it out it has not got any worse.

Hello guys! Any new info on this issue? My 13 RS TSI does the same, and I do not have a clue what it could be....

Am I correct in thinking that the Octy has a part-electric steering mechanism. If so could it be something to do with an electronic device? Just a thought.

My car made a noise while turning in very slow speeds, that was the left suspension strut bearing failing. Now a couple of months later the right one has failed.

Hi. Was this a warranty claim or out  of warranty / wear and tear??

thanks

No this was a production failure I believe and covered by the warranty. The left one failed after 11800 miles and the right one at 14000 miles. The Haldex and the rear dampers also failed as a production error.

Query re: noises - I see 'scratching' / 'rubbing' / 'whining' listed above...

However, for me, when manoeuvring and turning left slowly from about 70%-100% lock, I get a faint squeaking (e.g. like trolley wheels or cartoon tricycle-type noise)...

It's pretty much only limited to turning left (currently), and I'm 95% certain it's caused by the front drivers' side wheel. Is this likely to be a bearing, or something joint-related? Really CBA to take it into the garage for something seemingly minor...

Mine is 2015 and I have the faint noise possibly from the rear when turning left as per the OP and the same chirping/squeaking as Ads230 at low speed from the right front wheel when turning left at low speed and seems to be when the wheel is cold, i.e. 1st thing in the morning. Had it into 3 garages, assured by them all that there's no problem. Told that he chirping is the brake disc back plate touching. My instinct is front wheel bearing but as I've said, all garages have checked and said it's fine.

The power load increases when the steering is put on full lock ( more obvious with a hydraulic system). Is this noise coming from the alternator? Maybe try to load the alternator up by turning hrw, lights, wiper etc. on suddenly while listening.

I've have the same noise and found it was the fan behind the glovebox. Does yours stop when turning off air conditioning? If so that's the problem.

I removed the fan and applied some oil and haven't heard since (~3 months ago).

Hope this helps.

Anyone find out what was the problem? My Octavia is doing the same noise

Top mounts were changed on mine Nd solved the issue for me. Not that I can say that’s what yours is.

Mine`s coming up to 110000 and been doing it since i bought it at 88000 (second owner),i contacted the first owner about it and he said it had been into the garage a few times about it but nobody could come up with a definate answer, bloody car will probably see me out anyway so i`m not too worried :biggrin:.

Any news regarind this problem? We have a Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDI from 2015. Have exact the same problem. As soon as the steeringwheel are moved to the left (from middle position) we have this scurring noise. Same noise no matter if its 5% turn or 100% turn.

Have had it at a mechanic (skoda) - he could hear the noise. He had a look at breaks etc - but couldnt find any problem - so told us not to worry about it.

The problem is that as soon as you have locked on that noise - it's not easy to abstract from :-)

So just wanted to know if there is any news regarding this matter? Any solution.

Next step is to have the gearbox checked i guess - but thinking thats gonna eat up some money.

We just got our 2014 1.6 TDI Estate  with manual 6-gear.  Car has exactly same problem.  When steering just ever so slightly to the left, a scurring noise.  If you accelerate into a left corner the sound is even stronger and the engine sounds like

a really old fashioned diesel.  When pressing the clutch or steering straight/to right sound is immediately gone.

From several Skoda owners (in the Dutch Skoda forum) I got message that it is very common with the TDI/6-speed manual combination, as the gearbox is extremely close to the chassis/body.   A weak, mis-aligned, or worn left gearbox mount (part# 5Q0199555BG) causes the gearbox under load to touch the body and resonate.   Several people reported that replacing the mount completely cured the problem.

I have the part on order and am looking for a local garage to replace it.  (I called the 3 nearest official Skoda dealers and they all denied it was the problem. I called 2 universal garages, and both immediately recognized it as a known issue).

Personally, i'm officially done with brand dealers.

I'll report back when my noise has been cured too.

Our Octavia will go for service next week to replace the suspected gearbox mount.   I'll update when the car is back from service.

Garage checked the car today. They wanted to thouroughly check, incl drive shafts, brakes, etc.  They could not beforehand rule out any clear cause for the noise.

After they called me back, I asked them to change the gearbox-mount anyway:    Just got a call back:   noise is 100% gone. Engine is even quieter overall.

The old gearbox mount turned out to be a little weak.  Normally not really an issue, but because of the outlay of the gearbox and tight spacing inside, gearbox just touches the

cars' coachwork when steering left and causes screeching and resonance noises.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!.  Costed me EUR 220,-    I'm gonna check with the seller if we can settle something.

I had our 1.6 TDI 2015 Octavia combi in for service today.

Told them to also chance the mount.

And now the noise is gone!

Thanks for the help with this problem 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Guys, having the same issue here with a 2015 octavia scout estate 2.0 tdi, the noise when turning left is exactly as you describe in this forum, skoda claim that this is more than likely a gearbox fault , i have suggested to them and shown them this post regarding the gearbox mount solution, however they do not seem to want to listen and claim that the mount is not the issue in my case ?? Would you take the plunge and replace this anyway? I see that you guys have cured this on the 1.6tdi , i assume that the 2.0 is the exact same layout and parts etc, pulling my hair out with this,
