Hi everyone.

 

I have a Skoda Fabia 1.2 Estate 2005 and lately I have been having some problems with power loss when accelerating. It seems to happen more often when the engine is cold, and usually when accelerating in 2nd gear. I've had the garage look at it and they can't see anything wrong with it. Does anybody have any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks!

They're only golden, not crystal.

 

At minimum we need to know fault codes if any, time since last service, stuff like whether the engine revs are rising but the car isn't going faster...

Sorry, no fault codes. Car drives normally apart from occasionally when accelerating in 2nd gear, then the revs drop completely for about 2 seconds, then accelerates as normal again. Car seems ok after its warmed up. 

@Iazarus - I'm none the wiser really, so I'll continue asking questions in the hope that answers will allow some sort of diagnosis.

 

When was the fuel filter last replaced?

Given that the temperature has just suddenly started dropping I can pretty much guarantee that you need a new ECT sensor.

Hello Ken, sepulchrave. Thank you for your answer.

Ken last service was 4k km ago and was the 210k km one, so fuel filter change was in the list.

Sepulchrave I live in Athens, Greece, so temp isn't very low (tomorrow it'll be 13-21 oC) and the first time I had the problem was about a month ago with temperatures up to 30oC. It is a new hint though and I'll try to check it. Thank you again.

The only unusual thing is that after a water pump change a year ago I'm adding about 1/2 lt of water every month or so without any obvious leakage (drops at the floor, or white stains during oil change, or water in the cabin etc.).
