Oh it's always there in the background just waiting to suck you round corners, just plant your right foot trust & feel

It's always there !!!

It does feel good through the bends. Although I've not had a chance to have any decent driving time in as yet.

Was just curious to the 2 settings that were available for it once the vrs button is pressed.

I don't believe the e-diff alters whatever the mode

I did wonder.  Just odd there to a be a setting under the diff for normal and one for sport that you can choose from.

Arrrrr just remembered, I had the increased traction mode enabled by VCDS so, mine probably overrides all those settings

First impressions,

I don't think anyone is going to be disappointed.

suspension(no DCC) is way way better than I expected but I am coming out of a cup pack clio 200. while it doesn't want to be thrown around quite as much as the clio its still impressive and very stable. with more feel than I anticipated.

I've limited myself to 75% throttle but the torque coming in so low makes short shifting and still making progress a breeze. ( again coming from the NA Clio.)

If you have gone for red, it looks the brilliant. wheels clearly divide opinion on here but I love them.

Tyre noise is there but the rest of the package is great its comfortable and quiet.

well worth the wait.

So there have been a few comments in this thread about noise (or lack thereof) from the exhaust and the overriding synthetic sound from the speakers in sport mode. I have to say from my experience so far that I'd agree the exhaust note is very muted and unfortunately there really are no pops or crackles regardless of what mode the car's in.

More irritating than the lack of exhaust noise though is the very gruff, dare I say it, diesel like sound from the speakers in sport mode. I've read a few comments saying it sounds like a fake V8, but in my car the noise in sport mode just sounds like a derv! Has anyone else got that impression too?!

Good too hear about the standard suspension Russ, got the DCC myself & whilst it does make a lotta difference I wasn't to sure till I went in a mate's Focus ST

Man that was just tiring to be in

I agree with this - the sound from the speakers is horrible

It might be fake but its not Dieselesque!

I wonder if the 230 sound is different then as in my 245 it sounds like a taxi when you push on a bit in sport mode!

My 245 sounds V8-ish or sometimes flat-four-ey.

AFAIK, it's not "fake" as such - isn't it supposed to amplify the existing engine sound through the bulkhead rather than synthesise it via the speakers?

Thinking more about it, I think you might've hit the nail on the head there about the flat four sound. That's quite a distinct gruff sound to my ears so perhaps that's what I'm hearing. Will take a closer listen next time I'm out and about.

I can't complain really as anything is better than the non-existent sound of my old 1.4 B9 Audi A4!

Coming from the 1.4 TSI ACT 150 in the Leon, which was a pretty good engine and really eco, but also very quiet, I can easily live with the 245 and the generator/amplifier!

My old O2 vRS TFSI had a phenomenal character considering it was a "normal" 4-cyl and standard exhaust, but alas Euro 6/7 emissions and noise regs have seen the end of those days!

I do need to get that sorted along with a few other things.

I'm getting very annoyed I got set the L wing mirror to lower in reverse haha.

Had it's first wash and wax today. Does look bloody good!!

So I finally have a BW confirmed of next week!

Plus my dealer came through and sorted me out with a mobex, got a  golf gtd for now until my 245 arrives.

I must say my previous car was a diesel Qashqai so the golf is a step up in performance, bloody quick.

How will the 245 compare to the golf?

No contest really.

The 245 will destroy the Golf in all fields.

I had a Golf R on test a couple of years ago and it was a very forgettable experience.

In the last 12 months I’ve had a Leon Cupra ST280 and a Superb 280 4x4 and they’ve been lovely cars.  The Golf left me very disappointed. Heavy and cumbersome. Nice in a straight line but dreadful in the corners. Just like an S3.

Understeer City

The 245 is a little bundle of joy.

One of the most competent FWD cars money car buy at the moment.

Just to confirm we aren't getting fake engine noise through the audio speakers. We have a sound actuator firing fake engine noise into the cabin. I looked into this and recall it being an eccentric weight assembly causing vibrations that are converted into engine noise somehow! 100% setting is excessive, sounds like it has a big K&N induction kit under the bonnet.

I use individual as my sport mode, with engine noise set to eco, the rest sport. This with the 245s semi-noisy exhaust is perfectly acceptable.

I've been trying to find out more about how it works, the sport mode setting is still fairly tame in my humble. eco is great for when the wife is in the car :)

Does anyone really use the eco mode on their vrs?  Just find mine very slow to respond and ‘laggy’ on the current diesel vRS so tend to use normal or sport settings only

Yes I use eco pottering to work and back. Generally average 37mpg indicated, however slowly going up with the warmer weather.

I mostly use Eco, until I want to have some fun.  Most of the time, I'm driving for work or chores, so I want to maximise fuel economy. The laggy throttle response and longer DSG shifts really make a difference!

Worrying about fuel economy with a 245 Bhp car seems pointless. Rather than suffer with soggy ECO throttle response, you'll get more enjoyment and better economy in normal or sport mode by driving smoothly and intelligently. Also the weather is warming and economy will improve automatically by 10% or so.

Fair point!

I do also feel more relaxed driving in Eco, rather than permanently wired in Sport mode.

Most of the time mines set to normal mode. Not had time to have a blast in my individual set up yet.
