Brilliant, you certainly use your motor

Used as it should be :D  Again testament to Richard at Modified Lights UK and ADE Tuning who have built a great engine and set up.

VW Action prep done, 3AM start tomorrow.

crap :D

So took the trip down to the pod yesterday which involved a 3am start to get there for 9. Never been before so didn't know what to expect but at least hoped to match Crail times.

The biggest surprised was just hope sticky the track actually is! At Crail launching it at 3000rpm is just spins the wheels. Doing the exact same at Santa Pod and you actually bog down.

Did 3 runs on the ZZR's and best i got was a 15.72 @87.36mph. As the car kept bogging down so swapped back to my road Conti's which did allow some slip and getting launchs which got times down to 15.68 @88.23MPH. So didn't match my 15.4 from Crail

The last 3 runs had a very consistent speed wise with 88.72,88.03 and 88.23 whereas on the ZZR's they varied between 84 and 87 mph.

Took ages between runs as the track kept getting shut down due to people dropping fluid, managed 7 runs in total but the first 4 took 6 hours to do the last 3 i managed in the last 45 mins as nearly everyone had left.

Headed home about 6 and when driving through some of the M6 road works but my wind down for some air and noticed i could hear my turbo spool more which i rather liked. Parked up home and noticed the that it sounded more grumbly than normal but as it was 1am and i was shattered went to bed and looked at it this morning and this is what greeted me.

Lovely crack along the weld of the downpipe. Took it to a local garage that do work on it and put it on the ramp to check for more and spotted this at the next weld down, looks like the only thing keeping it together is the bracket.

Think it might have been due to how grippy the pod is that engine movement caused it to move and crack.

Darkside who were there and helping me working out how to reduce my times were fantastic and already have a new one on the way.

Same that its not true that things in the mirrors arent losing all the time

Speaking with Darkside the dogbone/engine mounts will probably need to be swapped as we think that with the amount of grip at the pod its caused so much movement which in turn put pressure on the downpipe doing this to it.

Don't think ill be going back to the pod soon though :D

might need stiffer suspension though

Little upgrade as there has been a vibration since the pod and hopefully stop the downpipe from breaking

Got mine done nearly two years ago and when idle and aircon kicks in the whole car was rocked as idle rev dropped to 600ish.

When I got the ECU mapped had idle increased from 750 (without aircon) to 850 so reducing engine rock , it still can be felt slightly but not as bad. Didn't want to switched aircon off each time on idle.

Yeah I’ve heard it can make more vibration in the cabin but cheaper than replacing damaged downpipes :D

Good upgrade. I used to have the full set of vibra-technic mounts on my MK1 vRS. I personally loved them. Once they had bedded in I found them pretty good for vibrations.

Spoke to darkside about them and they said they would be overkill for a daily so going for the same set up as their golf.

Dont know why no one ever mentioned mounts when I was doing my research :D

Got it fitted the vibrations on idle are crazy but when driving they are fine and when you come off the throttle after heavy throttle you can really feel its not as aggressive as before with the movement.

Mechanic did mention the gearbox one looked to be on its way out so thats the next one to hunt for.

Upgraded engine and gearbox ones will cause cabin vibrations. They did the job well, but it sounded like the engine noise had increased, but that was just the additional cabin vibration

Bought the Vibra Technics ones but they are on backorder with Darkside at the moment

Awful day at Crail yesterday,

Made a late decision to go so still had all the seats in boot full of rubbish and normal tyres plus there was a 35mph head wind. Times were way down for everyone but i was disappointed with how it performed just ether too much power at the launch and not enough traction.

pretty much down in my stage 1 times

Thats a shame. These diesels tend to be a bit too torquey for drag racing. Gearing doesn’t help much either

Gearing isn’t too bad it’s just relearning the car I guess but it’s annoying :D

Maybe they’re slightly different on the mk2. Only been to santapod the once, but found you need in o change to 2nd really quickly, then had to change to 4th before the line.
