When you're only 3mph slower at McIntyres than a 200k touring car, i'll take that as a win :D

Keeping an eye on the Scottish Road Car Series this year and they had a new event yesterday at Alford which is used as a sprint track. Was waiting for the diff to be fitted but as this is a proper sprint track i thought it would better for the Fabia so entered at 8pm on Friday so didn't have time to take seats out or dig out the ZZR's etc.

Traction and grip with the PS4's is great and brave pills to help cut some corners and some how managed to come away with 3rd on the road!

During the lunch break at knockhill between sessions when we were running the mini in Super Lap Scotland i entered into the lunch time drag race and raced my friend Dean who had just finished fitted a big turbo to his Abarth.

So car is back to Darkside on Monday for a few things being doing.

Wavetrac Diff being fitted

Darkside Oil Cooler

Braided Clutch line to remove the damper valve

Powerflex front arm bushes as noticed they needed doing when doing the brakes

Cambelt and water pump as its 5 years old now

Service

Porsche Mecan Brake Ducts

Also looking at replacing the clutch but will decide what clutch to go with once the box is out and can be inspected then will make a choice on which one to fit.

Then off to Cadwell Park on Wednesday night to test it out.

Dropped off at Darkside this morning

No time being wasted had the gearbox and clutch out and the new clutch and diff in just after lunch time. Some seals for the gearbox weren’t included in the fitting fit so they are coming tomorrow.

Standard clutch seems to have held up well. 82k 52kish standard, 12k stage 1 almost 20k at over 200bhp getting used for track days, drag racing and sprints and still in good condition

Car temp back but going back to darkside tomorrow as they didn’t have time to fit the oil cooler but still wanted me to take the car back to help bed in the clutch.

Sadly the Porsche brake ducts didn’t fit due to the location of the anti roll bar and toe arm would cause them to pop off.

Clutch in my opinion looks amazingly good considering the amount of abuse its had.

Another interesting discovery is that the gearbox part number starts with 02R hinting that it’s an O2R box but the diff was stamped 02J. Also looks like it wasn’t keen on coming out

Took the trip over to Cadwell to try it out. The diff is insane. On the road to Cadwell in the passed the car did have a habit of wandering and thats completely gone now. On track going through the first corner and round chris curve it was able to go through them in 4th flat, could have probably carried more speed but didn't have the guts for it.

Couple of videos from last night, data is speed, revs,g force, boost and intake temp.

First one had a good run with the civic which had a DC2 type r engine with bolt on’s. Should have came off on the lap after him as the tyres started to overheat and it got messy.

Last session that low sun was a killer going into the braking area at the fastest part of the track.

2 fastest laps comparison

It’s crazy. Need to turn off traction control to feel it work but you’re minds telling you to lift but you keep it flat and it just pulls you round.

Car also doesnt wander as much as much as it did before.

Welcome to the LSD club it's the only TCS you need.

That's great, I don't need to switch TCS off , not got it. I notice the grip with mine.

The other mods look good , like sound of the clutch,

Should get better times now.

You’ll notice a huge difference coming off roundabouts :)

Haven’t really giving it much stick since the car’s full of wheels and parts still 😂

Took the car down one of my fav backroads to really give it some with the diff and its insane how much grip and traction and how much more compliant the car is aswell. Car doesn't wander as much or feel as skittish.

Felt slower still you look down and see the speed......

  • Author

Had the diff on just over a week now had it down some backroads last night in the damp and wet and again the car just pulls itself round at insane speeds.

It's actually getting to the point where its carrying so much speed through the corners you get the feeling that one little mistake its gonna be a nasty accident. Didn't like low speeds at roundabouts though when you get on the throttle still pushes but that might be the tyres 🤣
