  • I'll be sure to post pics of those same Zimmermans fitted to mine later this week, just to tempt you even further

  • You will be fine then. It's a cautionary warning that's all, doesn't happen all the time but can. If it had gone wrong you would know about it.

Though is it worth the £720approx to complete?

Not at the moment, but it might be in the next 6 to 12 months... :) Funds and other circumstances permitting. Very good point though.

When I did our MPi i had several sets of 288mm brakes left over. I got the above parts at cost price which helps but retail your looking at what, 460 ish inc VAT.

If your planning on something more powerfull then it has to be done

There's a octavia vrs just turned up at a local scrap yard if I go buy the front disks and calipers and carriers is there anything else I need for a swap to my fabia vrs

Just pump the brake pedal but only go half way down, should be fine and yes the brakes fit under those wheels.

Having changed the brakes yesterday and not having access to a pressure bleeder, myself and my brother did the old 2 man, brake fluid in a jar trick but i hadn't read about only pushing the pedal half way, so therefore pushed fully. Is it likely i could have damaged the master cylinder??

Having driven over 150 miles since doing it, every feels fine at the moment.

Hi guys, just bringing an old thread back to life here as I need a new set of Zimmerman discs and can't remember anything about them. Does anyone have a part number for the drilled/grooved discs that go with the 312 brake set. I have one of the sets from golfturbo that I acquired many years ago. I think they came from an Audi TT and that's all I can remember! Thanks if anyone can help. :)

Sorted, cheers Ross.

The discs are the same size, but the carriers are different and won't fit.

Are the bolts the same length and size on a fabia vrs mk1 and the upgraded brakes?  Because I have bought the larger callipers with carriers but not bolts supplied?

Thanks dan

Yes they are the same.

  • 3 weeks later...

I've tried this today and the standard bolts aren't long enough am I missing something?

In the guide you mention 7mm allen key bolts mine does not have these?  I wonder if this is why my bolts are too short.

If you dont have 7mm allen key fixings then you have the wrong calipers. Can you post up a photo of what you have?

The calipers and carriers came with no bolts . It's the old ones which don't have 7 mm allen key bolts . I bought them off OET . I will take a pic when next at my friends as there at his house at the moment

Thats the two different types of caliper as per the first post. The original on the left doesnt have the 7mm allen key bolts. The one on the right does. the 7mm allen keys 'sliders' mount the caliper to the carrier. the original bolts mount the carrier to the bearing housing.

So you need the sliding pins then?
