Columbus MIB 1 Map update impossible

Featured Replies

Hello everybody,

I do really hope, that somebody might can help me.
I did downloaded the actual maps for the Skoda Columbus MIB 1 . (Thanks for Aki78 :) )
I did it as well a few months ago with older maps.
Both times i have had the same Problems.

When i do plug in the SD-Card (32G, Fat32) with the correct files on it, in the Top of the Display a message pops up [Software-Download]

Then i go into the regulary update menu. After searching for an update about half a minute it says:
"Error: No Files available.
Please put in a source with data for the update or check the source"
(Fehler: keine Daten verfügbar.
Bitte legen Sie eine Quelle mit Daten zur Software-Aktualisierung ein oder prüfen sie die Quelle)

Even a manual update via pressing Menu for a few seconds does not work. It recognices the new data but will not update.

I checked it via OBD II for errors in the device and it says, that the Map-data is damaged. Maybe this might be the problem?

It is the first time, that i do cry for help here. I do really hope that somebody has got an Idea and can help me. :)
Thanks

Did you use a Mac to transfer the files to the SD card? If so, you need to clean up the SD card of all the spurious crap that Mac's put on there.

If not, try holding the Menu button in for about 30 secs and then try and do the update from the Software Update option there.

How old is the car - if it is more than 3 years old try and put a 2015 or 2016 map on there first?

Thank you andvee.

I am going to try the solutions out. There is another Update Menu after 30 Seconds? After a few seconds the Update Menu Pops up, which i have shown in the pictures.

I will test it right away tomorrow afterwork.

And Apple? I never buy any devices from them :P.

I made fast formats and even full formats with Windows and also specific programmes. None worked.

I have downloaded the map and unziped it onto a FAT 32 SD-Card.

By pressing Menu I was also available to enter the manual update menu. The problem still exists.

I can see the Version number.

So the problem ist still exact the same.

Maybe I should wait for a firmware update which will maybe repair some damaged parts.

Or is there any different way to manually update the maps?

If you have access to VCP you can re-format the map partition.

I don't think firmware updates will wipe the map partition.

Did you try with another SD-card to make sure it wasnt a problem with the card?

You can also use a USB-stick or even USB-harddrive plugged into the USB port to update the maps.

@andyvee I will try to organisate VCD.

I do only have Carport, which is similar to vcds.

@Gabbo Yes I did. Several SD-cards with different Speed-classes, different brands and even USB-Sticks.

Nothing worked yet....

When I insert the SD-Card, a message pops up in the too corner of the Screen "Software-Download". So it recognises the data.

It seems more, that I cannot update due to a damaged map (bootloader?) In the device itself. Navigation is working fine. Even e.g. when I drove from Germany to Liverpool, England.

Is it a genuine Skoda SD card, or a "normal" SD card?

Don't know if that matters on a Columbus, but it does on an Amundsen...

One of my friend told me it was impossible to update his Columbus (MIB1, MY2014) from SD card/USB stick for some reason. Finally he used an USB HDD and it worked. May worth a try...

@SWBoy No original SD-Cards. But that shouldnt matter with the Columbus Radio.

@aki78 i do have an 1 TB USB HDD.

I can give it a try this afternoon.

When you unzip it or extract it I believe it puts it in a folder. You need to copy the contents of that folder to the root of the sd card. I think there are three folders and two files that should be in the root of the sd card

Good stuff, was a common issue. I assume you have done a factory reset on the nav part using the menus

Gday there.  I purchased a MY14 Octavia in Australia and imported it into the UK.  I can't figure out how to replace the ROW maps with ECE maps.  Following the usual SD card update process (ie as outlined above) and using the hold-Menu-for-a-few-seconds feature gives a "Regions are not the same" message.  I would be grateful for any suggestions...Tearing my hair out.

Hello everybody,
the problem still exists.
I have uploaded a Video, which shows the problem.
When i connect via OBDII to the Radio, it says, that Navigation data bank is damaged.
Anybody has an idea?
Thank you

@andyvee Do you have more info about how to re-format o delete the maps partition with VCD? Would it be possible with VCDS or OBDeleven?

Thanks

Just to give other People with the same problem a solution:
Enable the Engineering/Developer Menu via CarPort/VCDS or similar.
Hold Menu button for about 30 Seconds to enter the Egnineering Menu.
Choose SWDL/Software Download, Tick Manual Download and proceed as usual. You are now able to do the update.

Thanks for following this up @OnTourWithGerrit, I think I have the same issue as you did - I'll look into getting a VCDS
