Hi all, after tearing my hair out over my old throttle body, gonna bite the bullet and buy a new one. 

 

Skoda dealership asking £561 they say the part number ends in L 

 

The current defective one ends in N 

 

The L one has a gold pipe leading off it ..does a pipe plug into this ? Currently have no pipe plugged into the old one. 

 

Help please. Do I buy 036133062L or with N or B on the end. Does it matter?

It'll probably work, just blank off the hose barb, the letter denotes a minor revision to the part, often a different supplier.

 

Are you absolutely certain that you need one, they really don't go wrong that much, I'd buy a used part on ebay and swap it out to see if the problem persists:

Didn't you already replace the throttle body?

Are you sure yours is clean? Are you sure there isn't a wiring fault?

Not sure what N-suffix is, but the version for AUB/BBZ is suffix M according to this page (item 2): https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2003-225/1/133-133035/ and I'm reasonably confident that is a bigger bore (because the L-suffix one also is used on the 1.2 engine). So maybe your car has had one fitted that doesn't suit it?  What's the problem, remind us please?

By the way, which is your engine code, it can't be BBY and AUA, I suspect the former? Should be on boot sticker or in service book, or on V5.

I've cleaned up the throttle body. It had bad idling and sluggish feeling. It stalled at low revs too. I have a G28 code too. You kindly pointed to me to the right sensor for the crank. 

 

The throttle body won't align. I was thinking that a previous owner put a generic throttle body on causing the problems. It says the basic conditions are not met. I have the right battery voltage, no DTCs, or all cleared. Engine on but not running. 

 

It might be the wiring loom, but I checked with the multimeter and it seemed ok. 

 

I can't adapt the throttle body at all. It says error during the run. I have a Vag 401 diagnostic handheld. It does throttle body adaptation. 

 

I am at a loss as it's my wife's daily runner and money is tight being a teacher. 

 

I'm trying to not give all my cash to a stealers.

Never come across that tool before. Is that reading measuring block 60?

I don't see a fault code, do you have any VAG code or OBD code? Other than the 17962?

Have you got/fitted the replacement crank sensor yet?  I have a suspicion that if you haven't, that may be inhibiting the TB adaptation.

Was going to ask my friend who is a mechanic to to both the crank and throttle body. However, on your suspicion I will ask him to do the crank first. See if that clears the problem. He was going to do both for an hour's charge of labour.

It is inexpensive Vag 401 that does most things vcds does. Yes channel 60. The other code is throttle body adaptation not performed. Thank you for all your help.

I'm not very confident about that reason for it not working.  I guess as the TB adaptation is done with ignition on but engine not running, if you have cleared the G28 fault before the latest ignition on, the engine ECU won't yet know that the crank sensor has a problem?

 

I've actually got a suffix-L TB as a spare that I got off ebay. I could measure resistances pin-to-pin this evening and you could compare with yours to see if there is anything obviously not right about yours?

Please don't trouble yourself. I truly appreciate the effort you and everyone is making. I'll be away for a couple of days till Monday anyway. So I couldn't check resistance till then. Thank you anyway. Great community here. 

Just FYI, the conditions for adaptation are given below:

 

Quote

• No fault in fault memory.
• All electrical consumers such as lights and rear window heater must be switched off.
• The throttle valve must be in idling position.
• Accelerator pedal not pressed.
• Coolant temperature above 5 °C, but below 100 °C.
• Intake air temperature below 100 °C.
• Battery voltage at least 11.5 volts.

I'd also add that the throttle body has to be completely clear of carbon and other debris.

If you've deleted faults the key should be cycled before attempting the adaptation.

 

I agree with Wino here, while worth keeping in mind, the faulty sensor probably isn't causing the failure as this is a key on engine off process. There's only a couple of circumstances where the computer could sense something with KOEO.
