The first 1000 miles

Featured Replies

So Skippy, as she is now called, has covered just under 1000 miles in the first fortnight of ownership.

After driving people carriers for the last 10 years or so, it is obviously a very different driving experience than I'd become used to.  Acceleration is brisk, gear changes almost imperceptible and fuel economy is outstanding - I'm getting 500 miles from a single tank full.  Steering is a little numb in terms of feedback from the tyres but I expect that from electric assistance, however it is precise and nicely weighted.

The adaptive cruise control is way more advanced than that fitted to the Citroen.  I trusted it to keep us pootling along in slow moving traffic around the A1 Western Bypass (Newcastle/Gateshead) and it didn't disappoint. Overtaking on the single carriage-way sections of the same A1 north of Morpeth is a breeze although has the ability to get me in to trouble with the local boys in blue if I'm not careful with my right foot.

The best part of ownership though has to be when complete strangers come up and ask me what Laurin & Klement means, compliment me on the colour choice or where I got the number plate.  The latter is a 340mm pressed aluminium plate which I thought made a nice change from the standard. Oh yes, my F-in-L loved the kick up the butt provided by the Launch Control.

I'm hoping to get some VCDS tweaks this week before heading for a short break on Scotland's west coast followed by a week or so in Cornwall.  More opportunities to see if I can get my average mpg over 56.  I'll try and get some nice photos of Skippy on holiday although I'm not sure I'll be getting from behind the steering wheel long enough.
