Rainsports or F1 A3s?

Featured Replies

Already got a pair of good year assymetric 3s on the rear of my VRS, but now I need a new set for the front.

I got the good year on offer and they've proved to be decent, however budget is a little tighter this time around and as such I'm looking at £90 a corner.

If if you had to choose between GY or the Uniroyal Rainsports which would you go for; in my eyes they look identical in terms of mpg/rain performance.

I have Uniroyal RainSport 3 on my VRS at the moment.

They are are a decent tyre. I got them from camskill at a really good price.

Just over £60 including VAT isn’t bad at all

Christ, that is a good price. Will have to see how much my local garage charges to fit (don't think my Pedros bicycle tyre levers will cut it for a DIY fit lol)

How have you found them for wear etc, I don't really want to be changing tyres every 10k miles.

Next day delivery too. I paid £36 to have all 4 changed

I’ve done 7500 since I changed them. On the service the guys at skoda said they were 35/40% worn

I've used RS3's before , they were great, gave me loads of confidence driving in damp conditions. Can't comment on wear though as sold the car shortly after fitting them.

That's insane, I'd be happy with half of that! Think I need to call a few garages for fitment prices!

Is delivery free?

Sorry. Can’t remember if it was free or not

I don’t think it was free. If my memory serves me right it was less than £20

They aren't in the same league at all.

You should have an all 4 wheels same tires. I understand the budget topic, but I believe there is only one right choice here.

According to the EU/information you get on tyre websites they are ... B and A iirc for economy and wet grip.

Liking the prices of camskills though, never heard of the place before today!

I hope you mean 7500?! Or you should be calling the world record people for the longest lasting tyres ever haha!

Yes. Sorry. That’s a typo. I’ll change it now.

Thanks

F1 A3 unless the rainsports from Camskill can be bought and fitted for considerably less than £90.

The Rainsport isn't a bad tyre, but it's known for not lasting particularly long, so that saving might be gone when you find yourself looking at tyre replacements again sooner than expected.

Probably heading towards the A3's again then, it's going to be totalling £74 a corner fitted, which if you're correct, isn't really going to be much of saving this time next year if I'm onto set number 2.

Have a look at user reviews and see what you think.

Im due tyres in a few k and I can't see past the Goodyears. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is also highly rated and probably the "money no object" choice but I can't justify the extra over the F1 A3. Dropping lower in price than the F1 A3 doesn't save much money wise but gets you a more compromised tyre.

I also like the idea of matched tyres all round, and you already have the F1 A3 on the rear...

I only do about 5 to 6K miles a year, I'm a lover of Rainsports so when the P Zero's need changing on the 230 I'll most likkey go for the Uniroyals but 235/35/19 not 225/35/19. I also prefer Grip to high milage tyres. The Rainsports, in my opinion, are awesome in the dry and even better in the wet. I also quite like the P Zero's that the car came with.

I always have all four tyres the same.  I have walked away from used cars with mis-matched tyres when the dealer has refused to change the tyres.  That's why I change my tyres front to back so that all four need changing at the same time.

ill just lob a curve ball in here with vredestein ultrac sessantas.  i have them on the civic and they are miles better and quieter than the F1 assy 2 that were on before...

The Sessantas are an awesome tyre, but I think they've been replaced with the Vorti now. I've heard they're pretty much as good as before.

+1 for the Goodyears.

Don't get me wrong, the Rainsports are good, I've had them on previous cars, but the wear rate and soft sidewall puts me off putting them on my VRS ... You can feel the give in the tyre when you lean on it.

In my opinion the Goodyears are a better all-round tyre and well worth the small premium. I won't be touching Pirelli again though ... Probably ever.
