Canton Sound System

Featured Replies

How good is this system ?

Is it worth the extra money ?

Works very well in the Superb.

Not so well I hear in the Octavias from wat I've observed in forums.

I find it very good, and I'm very fussy with my sound systems.

If u can, do it.

I would buy it again. Much better resolution and dynamic than standard system.

It's optimized for front seats. If you set up it according to front seaters taste, then backseaters will have subwoofer bass overload. Backdoor trebels are bit muddy, I would like to have clearer trebels in the back. Othervise  I am very pleased with the system. When driving alone, everything is good. I do not regret the investment in Canton.

Certainly the best car sound system I’ve ever had.

Stunning sound and definitely the best car system I've had too. You can tune it to suit your own ears, I have set the sub low and when sat in the back I've not noticed any boominess from the sub.

The surround sound actually works (put a DVD on and try it out). It also adds spaciousness to stereo sources and fills the car.

Just don't have the sub up so loud it shakes the houses that you pass, knocks teeth fillings out and gives you tinnitus. Leave that for the lads in tricked out Corsa's.

I think it's worth it. I tried with and without Canton before ordering and the Canton defo felt crisper and richer.

9 months into ownership and I would spec it again, put it that way.

It's worth the investment. Delivers open spacious sound with very nice separation and a bit of oomph, the sort of sound that encourages you to turn it up.  I'm fussy with my audio but I would rate it at a good 8/10. For some it can be a bit bright but it's possible to tailor the sound using the individual settings, as always the presets are not very good, oh and use FLAC files for the best source.

The only downside is It's tuned for the driver, so not so good for rear passengers.  That's not helped by the rear door speakers which are tweeters and midrange only so with the sub create a bit of a disjointed sound, but overall well worth the money and I would spec again.

Definitely worth the money. My friend has the standard system in his S3 and that sounds dull after listening to Canton.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Looks like I will specify canton.

Just got my L&k edition a couple of months ago, and being an old car stereo fanatic I just have to say:MOTHER ****ER! The canton in my superb rocks your socks off. I had the upgraded canton system in my 2014 Octavia as well, and that was not on the same planet as this. It delivers a pretty well defined soundstage up front. And then we have the bass. Man oh man! Rock solid, deeeeeep, loud and without any rattle whatsoever from the interior. Been trying to find out what size the woofer is, but would guess it’s a 10”. Very, very impressive never heard any original car stereo come anywhere close, especially when it comes to the bass.

It's more like a 6,5" woofer in the left side compartment. But it does its job very well!

There is no way a 6,5” can move that amount of air. I think that woofer is what sits in the Octavia, whose bass response more sounds like something of that size. I’ve been trying to google more info on the L&k sound system, but in vain.

Just based on size of the box I would say that it should house a 6,5" woofer. Based on Skoda information it's a dvc woofer in a 14litre box.

Don't think that they would put the money required for a 10" woofer in that small enclosure.

But - I've been wrong before and might be this time to :)

Haven’t actually investigated where the bass originates from other than somewhere in the back :-) I recognize the left hand box from my Octavia though, which has way, way, way less bass than my new L&k. It’d be interesting to find some hard facts about it though.

  • 2 years later...

Just got a Superb sel exec with this system fitted.

I’m finding it very disappointing , perhaps slightly better than the ones I tried with the standard system, but not much, and the basic sound system is not a good one.

Having read the rave reviews on this site I’m wondering if mine is working properly, (I’ve bought the car used, one year old and 10k miles). Or maybe I need to try some adjustments to set it up better.

Any suggestions welcome. Love this website by the way.

                      Gary.

Similar thoughts Kinyscat. It does take a while. I think it also depends on what you listen to. There is a sound optimisation, for my head, driver, sounds best, but some days, tune dependent, front bias.

A good excuse to find a quiet place and try it out.

It's worth having on the Superb IMHO, however, the sound is very, very bright and took me a while to get used to. I previously had a Volvo S60, and while the Superb is a better car, the Volvo 'premium' sound system is much, much better. Even compared to Canton.

We also have a Karoq with Canton. This is so bright and tinny as to be almost unlistenable. My advice for the Karoq is forget Canton and put the money towards a good amplified aftermarket system. Or buy a different car.

This! Fade the speakers 100% rear (subwoofer min) and listen. The WORST sound I could imagine. Lacks high end and bass.

I can't understand how they ended up with this arrangement.

Although I agree the sound is very bright, almost harsh, at times, it seems to be very dependent on the source material. I play all music through Apple CarPlay and some tracks (certainly less well produced ones) are almost unlistenable. There are others which sound epic.

A bit of time spent playing with the settings is very worthwhile but I think the brightness is something that cannot be completely eradicated.

For anyone using ipod , set your itunes account to sample the music at 256 instead of the default 128, you will decrease your storage capacity but greatly increase the sound quality. My ipod sounds great on my Canton (but the Canton hasn't a patch on the Dynadio from my last Volvo)
