So,

Not many updates on this. I have bought a splitter that I am awaiting deliver on.

Just been loading on the miles recently with work (been on site for a while)

I've also bought some fly-eye tint for the front lights. No idea how its going to look, but it maintains the theme. I will get the headlights out and give it a go, then see where I am from there.

Here is a picture in the snow:

So,

fitted my new splitter yesterday. Weather was horrendous. Was easy to put in, but I do have a lot of tools and a decent garage setup at home:

Put a bit of cardboard down, to stop my arse getting wet. Within 10 minutes it was pouring down..lol

Also realised my locking wheel nut is knackered. Looks like someone has used a rattle gun on it and shot the thread. I have ordered a replacement (this is why the wheels are still on - ideally I would have taken them off)

And finished:

Doing a light tint on my headlights next

Who makes the splitter / supplier?

Triple R Composites. Was a bargain... Very impressed with fitment!

Looks nice that, I want a splitter on mine but worried about the addition on the insurance. Not sure what the added cost would be, do you know at all?

I have my insurance with Brentacre. All aesthetic modifications (and power increases, to a degree) are free to add to the policy as its specialist for modified cars. Been with them for years. As such it hasn't cost me anything

Ah that's great, I'm looking to cancel my policy and move. I don't have any mechanical mods quite yet but I have quite a few minor cosmetic changes so far!

Great, thanks.

Would be good to hook up as I'd like to have a closer look before possibly ordering one.

Of course. No problem, let me know when and we can meet up mate.

I hit 50k this morning on the drive in to work. Nice milestone followed instantly by a failed 3rd brake light. And it was all going so well!

Not sure how to access it to replace yet but will have a look later today

Been suffering from lateral run out on the rear discs since I bought the car, thought it was about time I sorted it out.

As suspected, when taking it all apart, whoever did the rear brakes last didn't do it properly. Everything was taken apart and cleaned/greased where necessary. Problem solved!

Jacked up:

Another wonderful issue I found is whoever last took the wheels off rattle gunned them up and therefore knackered the locking wheel nut. I hammered a socket over each and removed them all, temporarily replaced with another set I had laying around. Need to order some more nut caps as the new locking wheel nut ones are a different size:

Bit of an unusual one - done lots and lots of brake changes over the years - but I've never seen a caliper bolt holder being square and not a socket. Bit odd - but worked ok with an adjustable:

The garage (which I desperately need to sort out!). Workbench incoming, can upload pics if anyones interested as I build it.

M14 spline bit is required for anyone doing their rear brakes (to remove carrier and allow disc removal). Anyway, changed:

Followed my trust bedding-in procedure and then started giving it some sh!t. No more wobble!

As I like the blackline theme, and don't want to change my wheels, i've been looking at spacing them all round.

After asking a few questions on the UK vRS owners facebook group - one guy suggested the following setup for me (and supplied the following pictures):

Mk2 facelift with 15mm spacers all round:

CC811B7A-9343-4729-BEF2-8256701D9549_zps

I liked the look a lot, and is pretty much exactly what i'm after...so I got ordering.

I've just received the machine spacers. Must say, quality is impressive. Will get them on this weekend:

Billet aluminium

78B0B190-8C15-448E-99D6-B2BF4B345678_zps

The longer wheel bolts also arrived. Have ordered some locking wheel nuts also with the associated length:

5B90A0BF-5A41-4944-8C22-D0D784B03FA2_zps

Its worth noting for others that if you order bolts for the Neptune alloys you require radius type. Most standard alloys use the radius type seat, with aftermarket using the tapered varient. This is important to get right otherwise the bolt won't seat on the wheel interface properly.

Slowly coming together...

They look well made.  I've got a set of H&R spacers and these look every bit as good as they do.  Where did you get yours from?

From a friend whos a machinist. He also sells them through ebay. I think he only charges about 30 quid a set delivered (with bolts!)

But yes, very good quality.

Heres me fitting them (and doing some other bits this weekend):

Wanted to get rid of the Octavia badge but leave the vRS one. Had seen a few people try this with no success (and outlining where they were applied before the paint was dry in the factory). I took one letter off and was confident I could do it properly

Round 1 is this stuff, its not bad! :

Round 2 is white spirit for the tough bits. Then clay bar/polish - checking to make sure I haven't left any spirit on the paint

And finally a quick bath:

I then spent today prepping my garage for the bench i'm going to be building shortly. Can't wait. Got a load of stuff that I need to get in the shed as it's been in the garage over winter....

DSCF5782_zpsfuydk9rw.jpg

The new compressor I have there is a step up from my previous, this ones 100 litre. Keeps going for so much longer, really enjoying it.

Next up i'm looking at lowering options. All 10+ previous cars have been on coilovers, but I want this to remain good on all roads. I'm considering springs, and have looked at H&R's as a potential option.

I have a feeling I will still end up with coilovers though as I love the variety of adjustment. These will fit up the same as some of my old VAG cars from having a brief look underneath, so will be straight forward.

Ok so had my headlights tinted this week.

For anyone in Hampshire (or prepared to travel)... I went to the following vinyl wrappers:

https://www.car-customs.co.uk/

Fantastic service, excellent price, top quality film used. Very happy (and i'm a perfectionist!)

A couple of pictures (better after pictures will follow once shes clean!)

Before:

During:

DSCF5812_zpsizkvxtdl.jpg

DSCF5839_zpsydmsyjyi.jpg

After:

DSCF5867_zpszj1kpb8f.jpg

I have since driven at night and noticed no difference whatsoever with light output. I would suggest this is the quality of film used, as on previous cars it has definitely affected the headlights.

Thought so. I was sat at the new roundabout heading up to see Andy - I did give you the thumbs up but I don't think you saw me.

Still want to take a look at the front splitter of yours, whereabouts in B/stoke are you? PM me.
