Octavia Spare wheels, steel or alloy?

Featured Replies

Spotted one big differance in the Kit levels between the VRS hatch and estate at the weekend, My 03 estate has a steel spare wheel while my Brother-in-laws 53 plate hatch has an alloy! is this right or have i been dupped by a main dealer?

I know im only running 16's instead of 17, but any idea why the estate is a steely?

My father in law has a vRS estate (04) I'm fairly sure this has a steel spare. My hatch (54) has an alloy.

I'd guess it's because they didn't have anything as big as 17 in steel, but they did have 16s (otherwise I'd have got a steel too :( )

The new Octavia mk 2 vRS can have 18" alloys but only a 16" steel spare!!

vrs 51 plate alloy spare... hatch back

is there something about the estate floor plan that only leave room for a thinner steel spare?

Joel

the estate only has 16" wheels, maybe the floor plan is different? although a 16inch steel overall size should be the same/

2002 4X4 Estate - full size (16") steel spare.

04 vrs estage and a steel spare

same tyre as the rest.

03 Octy Elegance (Hatch), Full sized steel spare.

If you bought you car second hand a lot of people buy an extra alloy wheel for use as a spare, but IIRC the standard is a steel spare.

I've got a 3rd-hand 1999 SLX Octy estate and thats only got a steel spare and not an alloy spare to match the other 4. Any idea if thats correct or has someone nicked it? The tyres are all the same size. Will look very silly if I have to use it and since I can't change the wheels around the spare tyre will end up perishing before being worn hardly at all.

My old vRS hatch (2001,Y) had a full size alloy spare from new.

Later they changed to steel to save costs.

My 54 reg vRS hatch has a full sized alloy spare.

Just for the record

Mk II Elegance Estate with 16" wheels, has full size alloy spare.

Brochure states that if you opt for 17" wheels you only get a steel spare.

My 51 plate VRS hatchback has 16" alloys and has a steel spare!!

A lot of early vrs had 16s including press cars at least thats what the dealer told me when I questioned only having 16s instead of 17s.

My 05 Octy I vRS estate had a 16" alloy spare - was it something they introduced as they came towards the end of the production run?

Same here 16" alloys and a steel spare

sorry chaps 04 vrs hatch. 17" alloy spare!!

Ok a 52 plate Elegance estate and not a vRS, but 4 alloys and a still unused (ever) steel spare.

2002 4X4 Estate - full size (16") steel spare.

2002 4x4 Estate - full size (16") Alloy spare!

Hows that one work ????

I wonder; what if standard fit should be a steel, but the production of 16" steels is slighly below demand, so some cars come with alloy spares because that's cheaper than keeping cars hanging about waiting for steel rims?

Dunno what style of 4x4 Estate DGW has.

Mine's the 4x4 Elegance, maybe that's the reason.

52 plate vrs hatch with brand spanking new 17" alloy spare, tyre still had the sticker on it :D

Brand new alloy/Conti on my Y reg vRS OCty.

  • 3 weeks later...
