Has anyone used Celtic Tuning to remap their car? 

They are based in Cornwall but have dealers over the country. I’m down in cornwall a lot and might do it at their site as they have a synopsis as well. 

 

Anyone used them?

I have not used them myself - I have seen hit and miss things about them across the various forums, I get the feeling that they chase the numbers over overall quality. I took my golf mk6 2.0tdi  to R-tech for a custom map, they remap VAG only and are low key in terms of advertising etc, people travel far and wide to see them.  Great bunch and you'll struggle to find anything negative about them.  Celtic quoted 140bph to 193bhp and a torque increase from 236 torque to 305. My golf went onto the dyno - it was making 138bhp and 200 torque and after they worked their magic it was making 177bhp and 250 torque, nothing compared to Celtic's quote but I was safe in the knowledge that they re-mapped my car within safe limits, it could have been pushed harder but at risk of greater wear and tear. The car went like a Southampton slapper on navy payday afterwards , smooth all over and power in every gear. I would thoroughly recommend R-tech and I am planning to take my VRS to them when funds allow. Shark performance is regularly touted on here and if I didn't know about r-tech I'd probably look at them.

Thanks for the reply. I have used r-etc already for the wheel spacers and the intake system. The fee for fitting was very small most of the cost was the parts themselves. 

 

I didnt think they had a dyno to check before and after? Do they use a standard map or do they use a specific custom map for the car?

Had it done at their head office in mansfield but I think they have a remote place down south somewheee now. Give Carl or Ben a bell there and I’m sure they’ll sort you out mate.

Shark are based in Mansfield - well worth the trip.

 

They remapped my Mk2 FL TSI with great results, and their customer service is top notch.

 

Also used Superchips on a couple of cars - been around a very long time, and again great product and service.

When and where did you go? They've not long moved to a bigger space could be that the dyno was packed up during your visit.  I paid just shy of £400 at r-tech a year ago. You get a full health check prior, dyno before and after, plus a custom map. Then nick goes out and tests it on the road before handing you the keys for a spin. Only when you come back with a grin on your face do you pay your monies. You get an info graph print out, an r-tech car sticker, a mug and a far quicker ride home .

I went literally just before Christmas and had the wheel spacers and forge intake system fitted. Could have done it myself but it didn't take them long at all so easier to get them to do it.

Mansfield is a bit of a trek for me 120 miles roughly 3 hours. Only takes me 4.5hoirs to get down into Cornwall. Lol

Was about the same for me - I’m in Newcastle. I’d rather spend the extra money on fuel and get the right job, than save it and get a bad one!

Yea I’m sunderland but work down that way quite a bit so it was ideal. They do do a great job and this is the dyno of mine. I’m sure they have a company that does maps via them somewhere further south too. What’ll happen is. Said company will plug you in. Get the current map, send it to Ben at mansfield. He’ll then write one and send it back and they then upload it. And then tweak it from there as it goes on dyno. Tbh he’s normally spot on the first time but if it needs tweaking they’ll just repeat the process.

you get what you pay for. Or you should do, It is not that complicated. 

Others similar, REVO, APR. Quantum etc.

This is kinda of a useless post, but...

 

One of my work colleagues (totally different industry) invested and co-owns a tuning company in Finland (Helsinki).

 

They happen to be the Finnish dealers for Celtic Tuning and I can get a decent discount, but I am a bit dubious about doing it...

 

I guess they can let me try and revert if I don't like, but this type of things you can only form an opinion about in the long run.

 

Either way, nothing will happen in the "winter period", which in Finland means till April/May

 

Of course I cannot ask their opinion, since they will obviously be biased - according to him " the tunes are great and all customers are happy ", but then again he would say that, now wouldn't he?

Although I asked about the map if it’s specific to my car or if it’s a general map loaded to every car. I was more concerned about their customer service and what people’s experiences were. If anyone had any issues with them at all. 

All depends on which 'Dealer' you go to.

This was a mate of mines with the overlay. 

And they’ve recently done another later model vrs this week and got 533nm and 235bhp ffs. It’s on the Facebook page.
