Superb car battery (3.6 FSI)

Featured Replies

Pun intended in the title ... so, I've done some digging for information, and found out that my car is equipped with a battery terminal detonator (just in case, so it says) ...  ... well, apart form that, I've also figured out my car is fitted with an AGM car battery, the likes of which are usually put in start&stop cars ... any idea why in my car's case? Do I need to replace it with a AGM only battery or can I put a regular one in? Any recommendations? I've checked the Varta's web site and their car battery selector, 3 models come up (for reference): Blue Dynamic 74 Ah, Silver Dynamic 77 Ah & Silver Dynamic AGM 70 Ah

No idea what that is?

If you don't fit an agm you will need to re program the battery control module to tell it what is now fitted.

In fact if you don't fit the exact same battery you should do this too. there is an entry for the serial number but I cant see having the wrong one in the module could matter.

The battery terminal detonator is a "device" sitting on the plus terminal, and in case of a crash or impact, it triggers and breaks the positive connection from the battery to the car (this is only in the cars that have the battery fitted in the boot)  as a safety precaution.

Regarding the coding, that shouldn't be a problem, I have VCDS - I'm just contemplating the AGM vs non-AGM battery, I guess I'll have to change it some time soon.

I see, thank you.

I wonder if agm's are safer to have inside?

It will have the detonator because it's a petrol car. Less risk of the battery igniting the petrol and killing everyone in the car!

3.6 petrol has an AGM battery in the boot according to what I've read. Also an AGM battery on other cars with either an aux heater (Webasto) or S/S. Otherwise the car gets either an AGM or an EFB type battery.

So basically, my car is "da bomb" ... :D
