It's a bit like expecting everyone in the world to like the same food and booze. You don't really need a good reason to hate anchovies and love cholent.

But I fit both descriptions, fat soft tight but exceptionally good looking :P ,might be able to take down Hammond tho.

You could just stick him in your hoodie pocket (you live in Bradford, you are duty bound to wear one !)

So you can have the posh one, just let me at the Faux Yorkshireman !

Let me put it this way. It certainly isn't an Octy vRS or the Passat estate with the same engine would be one too. It isn't an Audi A4 2.0 T without the silly stuff either or what would that make the 4.2 S4 (with no spoiler of course)?

To get a perpective' date=' I bought a Citroen BX 16v way back in 1990, sixteen years ago, without any turbo and just 1905cc that would match the performance of the Octy vRS mk2.[/quote']

Think you'll find the Passat Dunt have the 200bhp version of the 2.0FSI

Err......a 1.9 with a 130bhp is faster than a 2litre with 200bhp! Have a word with yourself!

Now you're just being silly!, what would you clarify as a performance car for the real world from today's marques?.

Bradford area, as in the cleckhuddersfax triangle, I'm such a proud parent my son was the first hoodie in the village :D

The ersatz yorkshireman is all yours.

I used to live in Birstall, and work in Liversedge, even new borns had hoodies ! (probably to hide the other head !)

back on thread, a 'performance' car nowadays has to meet a lot more different criteria than 20 years ago don't you think ?

Performance used to mean just speed and handling, but with improvements in everything automotive IMHO in now means practicality, comfort, safety and to a degree economy as well as the obvious speed & handling. Therefore an Evo would be hard to beat on any count apart from economy don't you think ?

Although I wouldn't have one at any cost, personally.

You'll know sunny Hunsworth then?

Evo or imprezza, having driven neither it is wrong to comment. IMO asn't driver skill been dumbed down by electronics unless you get a TVR, not really a family car as the other but think this would be my ultimate out and out hairy chested sports car, or for less money a lotus elise, vx220 ? Or does this defeat the safety arguement?

I found the report confused, i dont think he wrote it himself maybe got his 5 year old son to help out.

But who cares the real test has been delt WHAT CAR HOT HATCH 2006

The industries most sought after accolade and SKODA won it

Cant really get better than that

Dont know accessories differences between UK and Finland, but took a look at our specs and the weight difference is about 70kg. Not "Well over 130kg heavier".

My previous car was a 2005 2.0tdi golf and it felt like a little car comparing to octavia. There is no big difference in torque either.

Edit. Also others are entitled to their opinions. If they don´t like Skoda, then don´t. I couldn´t care less as long as I like it. ;)

Does he not realise the extra kgs tie in nicely with double the boot space?

His views are, as Johnwg says, pretty much the opossite in every respect to every other review on the vrs. He says TDI diesel like there are other sorts of TDIs. He also isnt comparing like-for-type cars, he'd have a better article comparing with people carriers.

What a nugget.

I see your point. Even though VW, AUDI, SKODA, BENTLEY, SEAT are made the same. You would still go for the badge if at the same price.

I don't agree with anything you have said in this thread.

But...... I used to have a BX 16 valve too, many years ago. And, whilst it was a quick thing, it wasn't regarded widely as a performance car, much as you say the Octavia isn't. It was ignored by the majority, who thought all BX's were taxi's and ran on diesel.

The car was also 500kgs lighter than the Octy, was less restricted by emission laws, and so unreliable it became far from amusing. (Unless yours was fault free of course).

*cough - 165 bhp, mostly plastic panels, handled like nothing else of its kind. They were quick, booked at sub 7 to 60, and 140 top speed. (although quite often went past that and right off the speedo :D )

Was a twin cam 16 valve engine.

The BX 16v was 160bhp, the normal BX GTI had 130bhp and the 16v was certainly as fast as my MK1 Octy vrs.

However neither of them are performance cars, they are quite quick family saloons.

Flynn should also remember that the BX 16v came with a spoiler and side skirts etc, these looked much more crappy than the subtle mods which mark out the vrs.

Octy Vrs - Practical AND Exciting

AND YOU CAN GET A PIANO IN IT.

Try that in a feck'in' GOLF

Saw this in WHsmiths at lunch time.

Test drive magazine Hot hatch review

1st Ford ASBO ST2

2nd Golf GTI

3rd Octy VRS II

I test drove the Asbo and Octy and IMHO the Octy is by far a better car. I don't understand why but half of the reviews seem to pick on it for having 5 doors and a boot.

AND YOU CAN GET A PIANO IN IT.

Wish I'd known that - just had one shifted down from Harlow for

Upright but quite ornate and very old - like 102 years!!! I don't think it would have gone even into my octy boot

I was offered a test drive in the new VRs the other day when I was at the local dealers, I turned the 'offer' down though as I would have been to embarrased to be seen in it!!

Not for the reasons you might expect though, I actually like the VRs, and might get one next year, but I turned down the test drive because the demonstrator had written in huge letters down the side -

"POWERED BY VRS MUSCLE"

Muscle? who they trying to kid? it's fairly quick but by no means a muscle car.

That guy is nothing but a jumped up Gob****e.

That guy is nothing but a jumped up Gob****e.

:iagree:

It's certainly a lot quicker when driven by somebody who actually knows what they're talkin' about!

I'll assume from your highly intelligent comments that your referring to me?

What qualifies you to think I dont know what i'm talking about? I can assure you that i've bought more cars in the last year than you will in your entire life, that has entailed test driving almost every 4 door car currently on the market, including the new VRs which as I said once already - I like.

I just didn't want to drive one with stupid graphics down the side.

And if you think the VRs is the be-all and end-all of performance cars your sadly mistaken, as said before, it's a fairly quick family car - not a sports car.
